I noticed/discovered or was recommended a book on Amazon called "An Exchange of Souls" by Barry Pain. There is only one review that was German I think and the translation didn't tell me anything really.
It was apparently written in 1911, so the idea of a body swap story from 100+ years ago sounds interesting. Different societal norms, pre WW1 & WW2...also would be open to other suggestions of OLD stories like that, body or soul swap types.
Here is the Amazon link, I paid the dollar for it, but not sure when I'll start to read it.

Comments
I haven't read the book but I found this
Another comment states that Lovecraft was inspired by this (no other real information).
Thanks, I that or something similar too
I'm hoping maybe someone read it and tell us if it's worth the read.
Translation
"An Exchange of Souls" by Barry Pain: befriended by a strange researcher, Dr. Myas, the narrator tells us about the latter's experience, prepared for a long time, which should have been limited to the demonstration that the transfer of consciousness is possible; but here's the thing! His sidekick and girlfriend dies as a result of the experiment and Myas finds himself trapped in her body with no way back... A thrilling news full of twists and surprises until the last line.

Audio Book
Found this audio book "An Exchange of Souls" by Barry Pain on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9-ePp3fvSw0&pp=ygUUQW4gRXhja...
Wow!
I hadn't considered an audio book version. Four and a half hours is a long time to listen. I'll probably read it, but having another option good as well.
Thank You!!
Well, if someone finds it in
Well, if someone finds it in a store, in the original publication, it's well outside of copyright and can be uploaded to Project Gutenberg. There are 9 works from that author there, just not this one.
I'll get a life when it's proven and substantiated to be better than what I'm currently experiencing.
Is 1931 old enough?
The comic author Thorne Smith (who wrote the Topper novels) wrote a good bodyswap book called Turnabout. It's on Gutenberg Australia here: https://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks06/0600291h.html
In a nutshell, and to the best of my recollection, a very normal couple has for some reason an Egyptian idol in their bedroom, and the thing gets tired of the two squabbling about whose life is easier or better. So he swaps them. There are some pretty unexpected twists, which I won't give away.

There is a 1940 movie of Turnabout
It's cute, I've seen it a few times over the years. I've never read the actual book though. Thanks!
The movie is on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOyRriJkRCo
Movie
There was a movie in the 60s starring Debbie Reynolds called Goodbye Charlie. It was about a womanizer who was pretty much punished by being reincarnated into a woman (Debbie Reynolds character) and had to put up with being treated pretty much the same way he had treated women.
It also stars Tony Curtis and Pat Boone.
I was thinking I wouldn't recommend it, but then I realized there are many stories on BigCloset that follow the same premise.
I don't THINK it was ever a book, but don't quote me on that.
Okay. I just looked it up, and it was originally a play. It also served as the basis for a 1991 film, "Switch". "Goodby Charlie" came out in 1964.

Goodbye Charlie
Goodby Charlie was based on a Broadway play that starred Lauren Bacall in the part of Charlie. She was unable to take the movie part which was offered to Marilyn Monroe who, perhaps wisely, said she didn't think she would be believable in it. Debbie Reynolds had the right tomboy charm and vulnerability. The rest of the casting went sideways, though; Jack Lemmon was supposed to get the Tony Curtis part with Tony Curtis, Pat Boone, and Walter Matthau playing musical chairs with roles.
There was a book with a different and, to me, better ending. The book may have been based on the play rather than the other way round.
Switched was a movie in the 90s based on Goodbye Charlie starring Ellen Barkin and Jimmy Smits.
There are several versions of a Spanish Language TV show called Lalola with versions in several countries, including a Greek one, that has a similar basic setup of the womanizer being punished.

As sung by the composer Walden Robert Cassotto - Better known as Bobby Darin. His sister lived in my hometown and signed autographs for the kids in my Elementary School.

Bobby Darin
Bobby Darin discovered at age 32 in 1968 that the woman he thought was his sister was actually his mother, and the woman he believed was his mother was actually his grandmother. His mother, Nina, had become pregnant as a teenager and gave birth to him out of wedlock, so his maternal grandmother, Polly, raised him and they all pretended Nina was an older sister. Needless to say, this was a life-changing revelation for Darin and drove him into seclusion for most of a year, living in a trailer in Big Sur. It was also in 1968 that he witnessed Bobby Kennedy's assassination in the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles. He had been a fervent part of the cadre of Hollywood celebrities who had supported Kennedy and appeared with him on the campaign trail.

Totally partially recalled
OOOOPSIES! At the time, as an eleven-year-old, I was like everybody else in that we thought it was pretty cool to get her autograph. Only years after Bobby died did I learn about the truth of his "sister's" true identity. Thanks!

Failed TV Series
There was also a 1979 TV Show entitled Turnabout. Starring John Schuck and Sharon Gless (for those who liked Holmes and Yoyo, and a Klingon Attorney, as well as Cagney and Lacey).
It was based on the 1931 book, which was what the 1940 movie was based on as well.
Interestingly, another Star Trek almumnus was in it, James B. Sikking, who played Captain Styles ("You do this Kirk, and you'll never sit in a captain's chair again" -- Star Trek III: the Search for Spock (1984)).
