Christmas Eve:
Rustie was enjoying being home for the holidays. All her relatives were visiting, and those who couldn’t accept her were told to either not come or just keep their mouth shut if they did. She had spent the week buying Christmas gifts for everyone.
Between her brothers and her, they all paid off the mortgage on their parents’ house, not that they had to. Her parents made good money and could afford it. Buying gifts that everyone would enjoy was the hard part. She knew whatever her parents and brothers wanted, they went out and bought themselves.
She started looking for a place of her own, but wasn’t going to buy it any time soon. She was just looking, because she wasn’t sure she wanted to stay in her home town. Still, she did like several houses she inspected and thought out about maybe she might stay.
As for the band, she had been informed that they had a busy next year with traveling overseas and releasing their second album around June. Some of the members were enjoying the success of their band. Lou was even thinking about proposing to his girlfriend.
As for herself, she hasn’t found the right person. Sure, she was still young, but it would be nice to share her life with someone who was supportive and could fuck her brains out. Her counselor thinks she should hold off getting surgery. She still needed to adjust to her new life before making a life changing decision.
She helps her mother and several other female relatives prepare Christmas dinner. Her mother made her record several family recipes that have been passed down to each girl born into the family. She went out with her mother and aunts and bought a new dress, shoes, and even lingerie she would wear under it. Sure, it was Christmas, but she wanted to feel sexy while wearing the dress. Her mother just smirked when she told her that.
Christmas Day:
Rustie wakes up a little after one in the afternoon. She had stayed up until two in the morning with several of her relatives, talking about the places she had performed at. What her bands plan were after the holiday and how long they were going to be gone.
After opening her gifts from her family and having a late dinner. Which consisted of Roast Beef, mashed potatoes, the vegetables they had cooked with the roast beef, and leftover pie from Christmas Eve. After dinner was done, Rustie sat on a floor pillow in one of the new nightgowns her mother gave her for Christmas, leaning against her mother’s leg like she always did when she was younger. She just listened to her brothers and father talk.
“What are thinking about, sweetie?” Shirley looked down towards her daughter as she sat close to her.
“Just thinking about how much I miss everyone when I’m on the road and how lucky I am having a family who loves me, for me.” Rustie knew she was lucky to have a loving understanding family.
“I guess you have met a lot of people like you who were disowned by their family and friends.”
“Some mom, I just don’t understand how anyone can turn against their child, when they come out and tell their parents they don’t feel like the gender they were born as.”
“To be honest, sweetie, it was hard to imagine that you weren’t the gender you were born. There were things me and your father turned a blind eye to.”
“You mean when you found me wearing your makeup and wearing a dress you left out?” A smile appears.
“Yes, and when you wouldn’t give your cousin’s doll back. You were dropping clues and giving us hints, but we never picked up on them until you got older. Now, we wish we had allowed you to be yourself when you were younger.”
“Well, you and dad have accepted me now and that’s all that matters.” Rustie hugs her mother’s leg.
The rest of the night, the family watches Christmas specials. By around the morning, everyone turns in. Rustie gets a hug and kiss from both her parents, before she lies down and fall asleep feeling so lucky and loved.
