Chapter 50: The Reconing
Yuqi and Sapphire trailed after Julia down the stairs, each step feeling like a sentence being handed down. The living room lights glared overhead, harsh and accusing. The air was suffocating, pulsing with judgment and anger almost thick enough to taste. Thomas stood near the hearth, arms locked tight across his chest, his jaw set in an unyielding line, eyes burning with disappointment and fury. Jessica perched on the couch, her lips a thin, furious slash, fingers digging into her knees, barely holding herself together. David leaned against the wall, every muscle tensed like a drawn bow, his glare sharp enough to cut.
Julia’s voice exploded, a thunderous crack that made the air vibrate with rage. Her words dripped with venom and contempt as she jabbed a shaking, accusatory finger at the couch. “Sit. Now. Don’t make me repeat myself.”
The two girls obeyed instantly, the sharpness of Julia’s command still ringing in their ears. They nearly stumbled over each other in their haste to sit, backs rigid, hearts pounding. Hands locked in a desperate grip, their knuckles turned white, as if holding on for survival. Even then, their palms were slick with cold sweat—fear and shame twisting in their stomachs.
For a long, punishing moment, the parents glared at them with cold fury. The silence was a vise, pressing in on the girls, thick with disappointment and anger. Thomas finally broke it, his voice razor-sharp and bristling with accusation. “Do you two have any idea what this looks like? Do you realize how much you’ve embarrassed us?”
Yuqi’s cheeks burned under the scorching weight of her parents’ fury. Her voice cracked, barely audible over the anger crackling in the room. She shook her head in frantic denial, panic clawing at her throat. “Dad, it’s not— We didn’t—”
Jessica shot up her hand, cutting Yuqi off with a sharp, furious gesture. “Enough! The smell alone is proof that something happened here.” Her eyes bored into Sapphire, cold and accusatory. “You were trusted in this home, with our families’ reputations, and you throw that away for what? For a moment of carelessness? Unbelievable.”
Sapphire’s face went crimson, her voice trembling as she struggled to speak over the storm of anger in the room. “I swear we don’t know what happened! We fell asleep, and then when we woke up, there was… that smell. But we never— We still had our clothes on!” Her words tumbled out in a rush, desperate and pleading, eyes darting between the adults, searching for even a shred of understanding amid their furious glares.
Julia’s eyes flashed with disgust at Sapphire’s panic, any trace of sympathy vanishing in an instant. Her lips curled in frustration as her voice cut through the room, harsher than before. “Clothes or not, girls, you’ve crossed a line—one we made damn clear! You owe us a real explanation, right now. No more dodging, no more excuses.”
Yuqi’s throat closed up, strangled by the expectation and fury radiating from her parents. Her mouth went dry, her mind blank under the weight of their furious stares. “Mom, I don’t know how to explain it. I woke up hugging her, and then it was just—there. I panicked. We both panicked.” Her voice was hoarse and desperate, barely more than a whisper. She scrubbed angrily at her damp cheeks, humiliated by her own tears. “But we didn’t mean for anything to happen, I swear!”
David finally spoke, his voice cutting through the room like a blade, all pretense of gentleness gone. “Enough. Listen closely, both of you. Queens or not, you’re still sixteen—and don’t you dare think your bond excuses this kind of reckless stupidity. You have responsibilities, and you threw them aside for a moment of carelessness. Control isn’t optional. Passion without discipline is weakness, and weakness has consequences. You will not embarrass this family again.”
Jessica’s jaw clenched, her eyes blazing with frustration. “This isn’t about your feelings for each other—I don’t care about that. What infuriates me is how recklessly you both behaved. You lost control, and you risked everything we’ve worked for, everything our families stand for! Do you even understand the magnitude of your carelessness? One slip-up, one moment of stupidity, and your futures—both as rulers and as young women—could be ruined in an instant. This kind of thoughtlessness is unacceptable, and it will not happen again.”
Yuqi shrank further beneath the onslaught of their vicious words, her shoulders wracked with sobs as tears streamed down her burning cheeks. The adults’ fury was a storm, suffocating and merciless, crushing her into the cushions until she felt like she might disappear. Every venomous glare, every harsh syllable seemed to strip away another layer of her confidence, leaving her raw and exposed. Sapphire squeezed her hand so tightly it hurt, her own face rigid with the effort not to collapse. Her teeth were clenched, jaw aching, as she stared hopelessly at the floor, the relentless barrage of adult rage threatening to shatter her composure entirely.
Julia knelt in front of Yuqi, but her expression was still hard, her eyes burning with disappointment. “Look at me, Yuqi,” she snapped, her voice sharp and unyielding. “This isn’t about shame—this is about consequences. You can’t afford to be reckless, not for one second. Do you realize what’s at stake? The whole world is watching you. One careless mistake, and everything we’ve built is at risk. You have to be stronger. You have to be better. I won’t let you drag this family down.”
Yuqi’s breath hitched, her voice barely holding together as she flinched under the weight of their fury. “I know. I’m sorry. We’re sorry. We should’ve been better. It just… happened. Please don’t hate us.” Her apology came out choked and desperate, words tumbling over each other as she tried to appease the storm of anger in the room.
Sapphire nodded frantically, her sapphire-blue eyes streaming with tears as she struggled to steady her voice. “We’ll be more careful. I promise. We can’t take back what happened, but we’ll do anything—anything-to prove we’re not as irresponsible as you think.” Her words came out in a desperate rush, nearly drowned out by the lingering anger crackling in the air.
The room remained suffocating, the parents’ fury still simmering beneath the surface. No forgiveness came, only a bitter, heavy silence. Their eyes stayed hard, disappointment and anger etched deep in every line of their faces. The weight of judgment lingered, pressing on Yuqi and Sapphire like a sentence yet to be served.
David’s patience snapped, his face twisted with rage as he glared at the girls. “Enough! I don’t want to hear another excuse. See that you are careful—because next time, there won’t be any explanations, and there sure as hell won’t be forgiveness. Consider this your final warning.” His words were cold, final, leaving no room for doubt about the consequences if they failed again.
The silence was crushing, thick with judgment and rage. Jessica’s eyes were razor-sharp, flashing with unspoken condemnation. David’s glare was cold and punishing, his jaw clenched so tightly it looked painful. Even Julia’s face, usually gentle, was twisted with anger and disappointment, her worry now overshadowed by the fury blazing in her eyes. Every second stretched, the air vibrating with the threat of another outburst, leaving Yuqi and Sapphire shrinking further under the relentless scrutiny.
Yuqi’s voice cracked as she tried to defend them, her words tumbling out in a desperate rush. “We got pulled into that world by the Jade Goddess—my mother. I don’t know what the rules are in that world. This was the first time Sapphire had ever joined me there. We may have gotten passionate there, but it was nearly impossible to resist when I finally saw her in her dragon form.” Her cheeks burned with humiliation and fear as she admitted it, but she forced herself to hold their parents’ furious, accusing gazes. “We had no idea that what happened in the dream world would cause a reaction in this one.” The silence that followed was razor-edged, the air crackling with disbelief and barely contained outrage from the adults, their stares pinning her in place like a criminal caught in the act.
Sapphire nodded quickly, her sapphire-blue eyes overflowing with tears and dread. “She’s right. It wasn’t planned. We didn’t think it was even possible. We just… got caught up in it.” Her voice wavered, desperate and pleading, as she glanced up at the adults’ unforgiving faces. The weight of their fury pressed down on her, making it nearly impossible to breathe. Every word was a plea for mercy in a room radiating disappointment and rage.
David’s jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing to furious slits. His voice was ice-cold, barely containing his anger. “You’d better understand just how grave this is. If passion in that world can force your bodies to respond here, then you’re not just being reckless—you’re endangering yourselves and this entire family’s reputation. You are walking a razor’s edge, and one wrong move could destroy everything. I will not tolerate any more stupidity. Do you hear me?”
Julia cut in, her tone sharp as broken glass and her expression unforgiving. “Yuqi, do you even understand what you’ve jeopardized? You were given something precious—access to your mother’s world—and you treat it with reckless disregard, as if nothing you do could possibly have real consequences. Just because it feels like a dream doesn’t mean you’re safe to do whatever you want. If being together there leaves evidence here, then you need to exercise control—ruthless control. I won’t have you endangering yourself, Sapphire, or this entire family because you can’t keep your impulses in check.”
Thomas’s expression hardened, his voice cold and unforgiving as he glared at them. “Don’t even think about hiding behind ‘we didn’t know.’ That excuse is dead. You know now—so if this ever happens again, there will be real consequences, and you won’t like them. Consider yourselves warned.”
Yuqi lowered her head, shoulders shaking as fresh tears streamed down her face, unable to withstand the relentless barrage of anger any longer. Her voice was barely a whisper, cracked and desperate. “I’m sorry. We didn’t mean for this to happen. Please… please don’t hate us.” The words hung in the air, swallowed by the adults’ furious silence, offering no comfort or forgiveness—only more judgment.
Sapphire’s hand clamped around hers, trembling with fear. Her voice shook as she forced the words out, desperate to break through the wall of adult fury. “We’ll do better. We promise. We can’t undo what’s happened, but we’ll do anything to prove we’re not as reckless as you think. Please, just… please give us a chance to fix this.” The room remained silent and unyielding, the parents’ anger radiating back at them, making it clear that promises alone weren’t enough.
The parents didn’t relax—if anything, their anger simmered hotter, their faces carved with disappointment and outrage. The scent lingered, an accusation that refused to fade, making every breath a reminder of their failure. The reality was inescapable, and the lesson seared into Yuqi and Sapphire like a brand: their bond was not only powerful—it was volatile, reckless, and dangerous without absolute restraint. No forgiveness was offered, only the heavy certainty that the slightest misstep could ignite the fury all over again.
The silence dragged on, thick with barely contained rage and condemnation. Every second was a threat, the air so tense it felt like it might snap. When Julia finally spoke, her voice was steel—unyielding and fierce, slicing through the room with a force that made Yuqi flinch. The authority in her tone was absolute, and it sent a fresh wave of dread churning through Yuqi’s stomach, warning that their ordeal was far from over.
“Yuqi,” Julia snapped, her voice cold and commanding. “You and Sapphire are being separated for a week—maybe longer—because clearly, you two can’t be trusted to follow even the simplest rules. This isn’t a request, it’s a consequence. Go get cleaned up. Now. We’re leaving for the mountains, and I expect you to remember exactly why.”
Yuqi’s head snapped up, shock and dread twisting her features. Her eyes, brimming with fresh tears, darted to her parents’ furious faces, searching for any sign of mercy. Her voice was ragged, trembling with disbelief and fear. “A… break? You’re sending us away?” The words echoed in the hostile silence, met only with cold, unyielding stares that promised this was just the beginning of their punishment.
Julia’s gaze was unyielding, her eyes as hard as stone. “Yes. You brought this on yourselves. You both need to be separated—not for comfort, but because you clearly can’t be trusted to respect the rules set for this home. Love is not an excuse for recklessness or irresponsibility. This isn’t about kindness or mercy—it’s about consequences. You need to learn the cost of losing control, and you will. Discipline will be drilled into you if that’s what it takes.”
She turned toward Jessica and David, her jaw clenched and eyes still blazing with anger. “This is absolutely unacceptable. I can’t believe this happened under our roof—under our watch. There has to be a clear consequence for their complete disregard for the rules and for our trust. I hope you see why I have no choice but to separate them. They need to remember this every single day they’re apart.”
Jessica’s glare was icy, her lips pressed into a hard, unforgiving line. She nodded sharply, her agreement carrying no trace of comfort. “I do. And I agree. There are consequences for breaking our trust, and you’re going to feel every bit of them.” She turned to her daughter, her voice cold and clipped. “Sapphire, get your things. Now. When we get home, you and I are going to have a very serious talk—and you won’t like what you hear.”
Sapphire’s shoulders sagged, crushed beneath the full weight of her parents’ furious disappointment and the threat of harsher punishments still to come. She didn’t dare meet Jessica’s icy stare, her voice barely a rasp as she forced out, “Yes, Mom.” The words felt like a sentence, and the silence that followed was thick with accusation, making it clear that their ordeal was far from over.
Yuqi’s throat burned, the urge to scream nearly overwhelming as despair and panic clawed at her chest. The plea echoed in her mind—Please don’t take her away, please don’t punish us like this—but she bit it back, knowing any protest would only unleash more fury from her parents. Their anger was a wall, merciless and unyielding, daring her to speak out and risk even harsher punishment. She clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms, forcing herself to stay silent. Defiance would only pour gasoline on the fire.
Neither girl dared to argue. The truth was undeniable, carved into every furious glare and harsh word: this was their fault. Their lack of restraint hadn’t just crossed a line—it had shattered every boundary, and the threat of their parents’ wrath hung over them like a storm about to break. Any protest would have been met with even harsher consequences, and both girls knew that defiance would only fan the flames of their parents’ relentless anger.
Sapphire reached out one last time, her hand trembling as she desperately clung to Yuqi, the threat of punishment and separation hanging over them like a guillotine. Yuqi squeezed back, her purple eyes wide with panic and filled with unspoken apologies, promises, and dread for what was coming. The weight of their parents’ fury pressed down on them, making even this brief touch feel stolen and dangerous, a final act of defiance before being torn apart.
Then, with the adults’ furious eyes boring into them, they let go—fingers slipping apart in defeat, the threat of punishment and separation crushing any last hope for mercy. Even this small act felt like surrender, forced by the relentless, unforgiving anger that filled the room.

I suspect a certain goddess
I suspect a certain goddess is going to clear a few things up.
My thoughts exactly……..
Perhaps in the parent’s dreams? I am actually surprised that she has not found a way to step in already, especially in light of the fact that she seemed to be encouraging the relationship between the two girls.
Not to mention the fact that one would think that she would not want her daughter being treated in the manner she just was.

Harsh reaction
The parents have a very harsh reaction. They don't even really listen to their daughters...
I find them judgemental and disappointing.
I hope for a message from a certain Goddess.
Yuqi
Should realize she is the queen and can make her own destiny, no matter parent's bitching. A goddess's approval trumps parent's condemnation
Tension because of their duality
There is a lot of tension because of the duality of both Yuqi and Sapphire, as well as Sapphire's parents, in this chapter. That makes navigating the various personal issues fraught with peril and misunderstandings.
On one hand, is the human world, where both Yuqi and Sapphire are still minors, and thus still subject to the authority of their parents, as well as the limits and boundaries set by their parents.
On the other hand, is the dragon world, of which Yuqi's parents are NOT a part of. It is not yet clear to me what the age of consent or the age of majority is in the dragon realm. Though I suspect that even there neither Yuqi nor Sapphire have reached full adulthood.
Then there is also the fact, that Yuqi is an absolute monarch in the dragon realm, and Sapphire is her consort by mystical/magical ties. Though for civil matters, they still seem to be subject to some limitations due to their minority.
But at the same time, especially Sapphire's parents, and to a far lesser degree also Yuqi's parents, seem to have forgotten this duality and the different standards applicable from the different worlds or realms. And double standards just lead to hypocrisy, unfairness and abuse of power.
Just take a look at the not so distant history of the occidental judeo-christian culture and society: Only 100–150 years ago, it was perfectly acceptable to marry at age 14, while requiring a minimum age of 21–25 years to reach full adulthood/majority and thus full independence and autonomy. It has only been in the last 30 or so years, that all these have converged on the single age of majority at age 18.
I vividly remember that time between 1988 and 1992, when the transition for age of majority from 21 to 18 happened in the country I grew up in. I had to literally fight against traditions to have my legal rights recognized. In 1991 I participated in an international event for young people, and all those aged 18, 19 and 20, who were considered full adults in our country, needed to obtain parental consent for international travel, because the destination country considered 21 to be the age of majority or adulthood, and did not recognize the lower age of majority from other countries.
