Magnolia Cemetery, Augusta, Ga.
A large procession of people wearing black follows Katlain, Taylor, and Traver towards the burial plot that belonged to their family. Since their family line was one of the founding families of Augusta, Ga. It was located in oldest part of the cementary.
Katlain was surrounded by her cousins and close friends as they walked past tombstons that have been there for ages. They spotted the grave where Declan’s coffin was going to be lowered. It wasn’t far from her cousin’s Keli grave site. Taylor and Traver stayed by Katlain’s side as they take their seats.
Some of Katlain’s family had shown up in support of her. Her friends had come along with every truck driver her husband had worked with and help. There were even a few bikers who wanted to pay their respects to her husband. He had helped them out while on the road and kept in touch with one another.
The preacher her family always used when someone in their family died waits until everyone has arrived and taken their place. He looks at the gathering of people and notices their somber looks. He places his bible and notes inside the bible and opens the bible to the book marked pages.
“We are here today to say goodbye to Declan Zane. Husband to Katlain Brownlow and beloved father to Katherine Zane. I got a chance to meet him once and I have to say I was rather impress how he managed to calm down Katlain.” Preacher Kingsley looks over towards Katlain and smile.
Katlain tries to smile, but was finding it hard. She feels Taylor put his hand on her shoulder.
“We have to remember that Declan Zane is taking that one last ride to a better place. When he gets there, he will meet up with those who has already made the journey and be waiting for us to join him. His spirit will always be with his wife and daughter, looking over them and protecting them.” Preacher Kingsley looks around the gather people and could tell their moods have lighten some.
“Would anyone else like to say their goodbyes?” Precher Kingsley looks towards Katlain.
Katlain stands up and walks to where the preacher had been standing. She looks at everyone gathered “not to long ago, it seems I was standing here saying goodbye to my grandmother and a very dear friend who had been murdered in front of my eyes. Now, I’m here saying goodbye to my husband. Declan has made a difference in my life. All I cared about was street racing and having fun. Now, look at me? The woman you see
before you was changed when she fell in love with a kind, gentle, trucker that showed her that there was more to life than what she was doing.”
Katlain knew it was Declan that had caused her to change her ways and become the woman she is. He had been the reason she went on the straight and narrow path. Sure, there were other reasons, but he had changed her. She glances to Katherine as she squirmed in Joyce’s arms.
“At least my husband’s spirit can pass in peace, knowing justice has brought in the person responsible for his death.” Katlain walks back over to her seat.
Several more people approach and speak nice things about Declan. Katlain wanted to let go, but she forced herself to listen all the nice things said about her husband. Once everyone was done saying goodbye to Declan. They all watch as his coffin is lowered down into the grave.
Katlain remains sitting as everyone starts walking back to their cars, after saying something to Katlain. Joyce lets Katlain know she’ll hold onto Katherine, to give her time along. She walks off with Katheirne still being held.
Traver and Taylor walk away, leaving Katlain still sitting and looking at her husband casket in the hole. She knew it was going to take her a while to recover from his death. She wishes she had done more damage to the person who ordered the hit on her husband, but at least he was in jail right now. She had connections inside the jail and could make life very difficult for him, but she won’t.
She stands up and tosses the white rose she has been holding “until we meet again, my love.” Katlain turns and walks away.
When Katlain gets to the limo from the funeral home. She breaks down and cries all the way back to her house.
