Well there may be an ulterior motive for those hits
The killer(s) may be trying to draw Nikki out by doing these deliberate mishits. Very nasty.
Thing is, Nikki can not in good conscience not help out though she is not suppose to have her emotions involved where hits are concerned. So she will need to be supremely clever and do something unexpected to throw off the opposition. Failure by getting herself killed would mean it would be a matter of time before Sam and Sara get killed. Proceed with caution.

I think this may come down to her having the opportunity to pay the ultimate price in exchange for the voiding of the contract on Samantha and Sara, now that we know that she and Ferret seem to think the latter is possible.
