the not-so-easy answer
if you are transgender, the issue of being gay or straight can be a more complicated discussion.
Leastwise, I have found it to be very complicated for myself ....
Oh I agree Dorothy. If you
Oh I agree Dorothy. If you are a tgirl who likes men, according to your mind you are straight, but if people go by your chromosomes you are gay. I usually go by the gender of my mind. lol.
Because it's a stupid question
"Am I gay or straight?" is barely useful for the cisgendered, but not for us weirdos. And even for the cisgendered, it's a very limiting question. It excludes transgendered in the non-extreme cases, possibly the intersexed, and polarizes sexual interest into an either-or binary.
The useful question is, What gender of partner do I prefer?
A possible additional question is, What genitals do I prefer on my sex partner?

Confusion is good...
"No," she said as she stared at me. "I mean, yes. I just ..." The confusion in her expression fell away, and her eyes seemed to twinkle as she smiled at me.
Thank you!
Love, Andrea Lena
Our protagonist is DEFINITELY gay.
Why else would she be interested in girls and not boys? = )
Came to that conclusion with the previous chapter, actually.
We know what's going to happen, but it will be interesting to see how. = )
Umm.. No!
Hetero- or homosexual are completely seperate from being transsexual.
It may confuse you, or you may want to cling to sexual preferences from your past because of social stigma, or because of love or sentiments of loyalty, ingrained behaviour, rebelling and thus 'change sides', or finally able to understand and even accept your preference.
But which sexe you prefer to play with will label you hetero or homo after and until you've defined which sexe you yourself feel defined by.
One of my pet peeves is when in a story after confessing to someone other, one is transsexual, the question comes: Are you gay?
No! You silly so-n-so! I am telling you I belong to the other side of the gender gap. Biiig difference.
Sorry, Dorothy. Don't mean to bite your head off, it's just that you pushed my button. It's not personal. Honest.
And otoh, it's just like these stories where there is play with the meanings and definitions that they can develop in really fun and entertaining ways. Like this series of ditties seem to do. Very nice Heather Rose, we all think to know how this will develop, and I hope it will just like that.
I catch myself reading everytime with gleeful anticipation and only have one complaint: It's too damn short :)
Thanks, Jo-Anne
Everyone in the world should
Everyone in the world should read this story.
OTOH,
Being bi is simple. One could be a bi-guy or a bi-girl or a bi-inbetweener. Switch gender ID, change body sex, whatever; if one is still bi then one's sexuality hasn't changed

I Ain't Gay! story predictions
Thank you everyone for all your comments and kudos! I just hope that this story doesn't become too predictable. Being on a TG story website, there's probably some things you can guess at, but I hope you'll find some nice surprises too. To be honest, although I do have a general idea of where I'd like this story to go, I'm not certain how I'll get there. I also find my characters can take over a story, so there's been times I've been surprised by the ending of my own tale.
Heck, Heather...,
Don't worry about not knowing about exactly how things will end. When you travel, the journey is usually more fun than the destination. So far this is an entertaining trip! I can't wait to see where it takes us...
Ole
We are each exactly as God made us. God does not make mistakes!
Gender rights are the new civil rights!
What a fun trip!
I can see what you mean, Ole. I have to admit, the more of this story I write, the more fun I find myself having. :)
It's All About The Characters
...at least at this stage of the game.
And, what great characters you're developing, Heather Rose! We've got Tanner, who's definitely into girls, and Mel who's definitely into girls. That's the simple part. But then, we've also got Tanner, who's giving off such a strong girl-vibe that Mel is disbelieving his boy-ness, while at the same time he's clearly identifying as male.
That's the tricky bit, his identity. I think it deserves some respect. While characters often change over the course of a story, with insights and epiphanies, it can be jarring when what appears to be an honestly and deeply held cornerstone of a personality evaporates. Unless, of course, the author has as deft a touch as you.
But, there are other directions this can go, too. For example, Tanner can realize that although he's a boy in his heart, he's androgynous in his body and learn to unashamedly embrace his ability to present as feminine. And, Mel can learn that although she's strongly attracted to girls, that maybe she's even more strongly attracted to a boy who looks like a girl. (One reservation I have is that the young characters are too young for anything too exciting to happen. But then, you don't usually go in for anything too hot and sticky, anyway.)
Looking forward to whichever way this goes! (Hurry up with that next chapter!) (But take your time to make sure it's good!)
What a character!
Wow ... that's a pretty spot-on character analysis, Pippa! It definitely lines up well with the way I've been thinking about them. I still haven't decided how Tanner will see himself by the end, but being a boy who's also feminine is a direction I think this story could go. I agree with you about Tanner and Mel being too young to get into anything "hot and sticky". Even something like kissing would be a mixture of awkward, exciting, scary, and embarrassing.
