Good chapter, glad that River
Good chapter, glad that River has saved the two girls, and it does look like they become helpers to River.
Hey, you take care of yourself; this story and all stories can wait until you are doing well.
This includes all authors. The health of you and they come first.
blending the old and the new
not an easy balance to find, but a good ideal to strive for.
As always, it was nice to see more of this story.
As I expected, River brought the girls to the river and it healed them. What I didn't expect was that this would bring her closer to Wayne and his family. That was a pleasant surprise - but she needs to be careful allocating time between the tribe and her own family lest they feel forgotten. I know I have problems that way myself; for various reasons I have pushed my family away since my late teen years, and wanted no part of them at all. Last year my father died - an event which because of our history didn't have the impact it perhaps should have; when your feelings occilate between grief and good riddance you bastard, you struggle with a certain amount of guilt.
That guilt has led me to try to reconnect with some of my family. For years, my only real family connection was to one of my uncles and his wife, and primarily to two of their daughters - the two I grew up with, who have always been more like sisters to me. I have managed to build a better relationship with my mother than I have had in decades, and have am attempting to reconnect with my sisters.
It is important to River that she keep that relationship with her parents and sibling. She seems to have much better parents than I did, and a much healthier and stronger family.
It also looks like she has some good economic ideas to revitalize not only the people, but the area. First a bank, then the real estate deals with her dad, and then merchandising and selling the people's crafts. There are plenty of people who would purchase well made, hand crafted items - whether trinkets, decorations, or more substantial things like snow shoes and canoes. There is real money in that market if the logistics are worked out.

Always Wonderful
It is a pleasure to read another chapter from this talented author. I enjoy the gentle reflection this story provides.
A very interguing story
I feel for Rover she was so looking foward to being a,JR, but now duties of a tribal leader takes persistent. I was just informed that Monie is NOT a wolf of the people but a chicken rancher in the area. I don't recall him being mentioned but... could be I over looked it.
Love Samantha Renée Heart.
No, Moonie's Not a Wolf...
Moonie raises chickens at the edge of the reserve. Sounds to me as though he assumed one of the wolves there was going after his chickens, and he reacted accordingly. But we don't know whether the victim was one of the people's wolves or part of the original pack they broke off from. It's possible Moonie had the right idea, more or less.
Eric
(edit: misspelled Moonie's name initially.)
My bad
I don't recall him being mentioned though I'll fix my post though
Love Samantha Renée Heart.
Very Easy to Overlook...
Thought he'd been mentioned twice, but the Find function's only showing one:
...there was a small eight-unit motel on the edge of town, and Moonie's hatchery across the road at the edge of the reserve.
Makes me feel better about not remembering him myself at first.

River Talker
Another beautiful chapter, the prodigal daughters healed by the river, embraced by their family. River has so much love in her that it's a shame she can't have kids without losing her special connection to the river. Maybe 10 or 20 years down the road it will become clear that the right thing to do to pass the role of river talker on to someone else. OR, she could always adopt a baby or three (Holy Moses! There goes one now! Floating down the river in a basket...). It seems like the river shouldn't mind that at all; and she'd get to be a mama.
Hope your health issue gets resolved, Dawn. Too bad we don't have our own sacred river
to take care of stuff like this...

for the axe had convinced them that because his handle
was made of wood he was one of them.
Another fantastic part
Although it's really hard to wait we'll wait untill you're 100% in health...

As a new reader
You probably haven't seen all the comments. I did well with the eye surgery. I now need reading glasses, but see well for distance (the reverse of what it was).
