is still the best gift I've ever given myself.

I'm glad that you are living out your dream
From The 6th Paragraph?!?
Are you saying everything from the 6th paragraph on was a dream? That seems like literary malpractice.
I've had some epic dreams, but nothing that could span months, multiple traumas, numerous settings, and hundreds of details.
.
The point of the story is that some can only dream and that real life does not allow wishes to come true !
Sweet and Savoury Tale
I really enjoyed this tale Gillian. Thank you for sharing it! I understand that Colin was relieved that it was all a dream, but I think that he missed out on quite a lot of fun...and a Village Fete winning Victoria Sponge!........( I have had a "highly commended" apple and cinnamon pie but have never risen to the podium for anything as prestigious as Victoria Sponge..in our village that really is only for the Champions.)
"Lately it occurs to me..
what a long strange trip its been."

Many thanks for your lovely comment Lucy, I really appreciate it !
Aw shucks
Good little slice-of-life story! While I would've preferred an ending where Alison actually got to find a bit of real life acceptance and made some good friends, it's probably better that it didn't happen at the expense of Jacquie's health...

Thanks ever so much, I must try to follow through some of the much appreciated comments in my next story.

Welcome
A story is a story.
How you construct that story is up to you.
There are "rules." Some are imagined and others are set down in widely-accepted books.
Whether you abide by those rules is entirely up to you. Sometimes people take the road less traveled. The Hunger Games uses a style rarely seen and it did okay. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants also broke ground.
Your story was fun and caused thought. That's a win.
Keep writing; you did very well for a first effort.

Many thanks Jill. I'm new to the story game, so all comments are gratefully received. Eventually I'll develop a style of my own but meantime I'ĺl listen to anyone who has been in the game longer.
Gill
well paced
The movement of your actors and actresses along with dialog was well paced. Nicely done.

That was such a sweet story that I won't hold the "I woke up and it was all a dream" ending against it. This only goes to show that good writing can excuse almost anything.
Time is the longest distance to your destination.
Many thanks
I'm glad you liked the story, despite the end.
