I’m trying not to cry over this.......
It’s nice that Luke’s life is better, but look at what he has lost to get there.
Somehow, in spite of everything, Lori ends up with both of her parents, a home, and all of her friends. Luke has to move away without his father, who truly loves him, and start all over.
How is that fair?

What has he REALLY lost?
I am sure that the father in question does think that to an extent. I doubt that Luke does, though.
He "lost" a house where he was stifled and arguably emotionally abused. He moved away from a town and friend group wherein he was repeatedly mocked, belittled, and isolated - even by Matt and Renee at times. He ends up separate from a father who cared but who ultimately was unaware of what was happening (or unable to really address it) for far too long.
His aunt and uncle have, by all accounts, done far better by him. His new friends have been a steadying influence. It is not perfect, but Luke is primed to emerge far less psychologically scarred than his counterpart from the original YAaM (and Lori as well). The "price" was very much worth paying, and I doubt that Luke will view it as nearly as steep a price as you see it.
I agree with Beoca
That’s it.
Good to see YAaM return. The
Good to see YAaM return. The party will prove interesting to watch - how will exposure to the old court members go after Lori's time dealing with the David Project, especially when members of the latter are there as well? Matt and Renee seem to have come out alright.
Real character development
Nice to see the way the characters have developed, especially compared to the initial draft, none of them are one dimensional
