Its hard to admit but they do have to go. We hate it but it happens.
Plus for Lady's breed she is really old.
If it was a cat...
I would have said: "Don't!" Our cat was unwell when she was 12... We got her to the clinic. Was told that only way is to have urgent surgery with 50:50 chance that she lives through it. Decided to take her home and not put her through that pain... She lived for more than 7 years after that episode.
Veterinarians are too eager to put out any animal at any opportunity. Some time ago I thought that they have it against cats. But then several of my friends lost their dogs to the same treatment... If the dog is older than 5 years - they are too keen to kill it...
It is sacrilege against official medicine, but try to google symptoms for possible causes and proposed cures. Try to find independent veterinarian known to cure dogs.
When our cat was closing on to 20 and was getting frail and ill, we found such a doctor. And he helped us and cat not by killing our cat, but by providing honest diagnoses and painkillers for the cat (and there was Internet already, so I checked that the painkiller is a painkiller, is not used for killing animals, and dosage he recommended were in the middle of the range for the cat of that weight).
So when she passed we knew that she was not killed by some quack in the white lab coat, but lived her 9 lives to the full.

It's part of the contract we have with our companions. When the time comes, we have to help them cross the "Rainbow Bridge".
This may be among the hardest decisions we ever have to make. My mistake was trying to keep Kitty longer than she wanted to stay...
And it's so very hard when they have to leave us...
When they are in pain that won't get better ... when their 'quality of life' is zero or less... when they stop eating because of whatever is killing them ...
If we are 'lucky' they will be able "tell" us when they are ready to go. (A friends dog snapped at her, from the pain; my kitty went up 16 steps to hide in a safe place...)
If we are really lucky, we will be able to help them, instead of trying to keep them longer than they want to/can stay.

Many vets (even perhaps an associated vet) will make "one last house call", and save your companion the trauma of going in to the vet ... and if they don't like going to vet, then at-home can be much better.
Take some photos now. Whenever the time comes, be with them as they set paw on the Rainbow Bridge.
