MRI and CT scan
I've had both that included my head. The MRI showed that I have arthritis in between the plates of my skull. The CT scan showed I have a mucus cyst in my right sinus. That would explain why I sometimes get sinus headaches that affect only the right side.

Apparently when I was born
The scull is made up of 3 or 4 main parts. The joints of these parts are where the skull grows as you go from infant to adult. Apparently, at some point the joint between the front and the left side failed to be connected all the way leaving about a 3/4 inch long opening. Not enough to cause any problem as it was quite narrow. But arthritis came along and filled it in. I can find the spot as a small bump just forward of my ear and about half way to the center.
