And I was disgusted by an article based on a podcast recently given by Ryan Helfenbien, the Vice President of Communications & Public Engagement at Liberty University and the Founding Executive Director of the Standing for Freedom Center. Mr. Helfenbien professes to be a “Christian”, but this is his take on the murder of Renee Good by ICE and CBP agents in Minneapolis:

“While tragic, Macklin Good’s death is the fault of no one but herself. When law enforcement of any kind asks you to step out of your vehicle, you obey. This is incredibly basic, but if actually followed, the number of fatalities at the hands of law enforcement would drop to virtually zero. When police stop you, you do not try to run away and you certainly should not try to hit those officers with your vehicle. This tragedy was entirely avoidable, but because a mother decided her duty to obstruct law enforcement, try to flee, and accelerate straight at them superseded her duty to comply, she is now dead. Christians must recognize what’s at stake here. Scripture is clear: “Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, or to the governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right” (1 Peter 2:13-14).”

So the victim of this heinous crime is at fault? And Helfenbien uses a quote from the bible to justify her death?

Helfenbien goes on to state, “The social justice mindset has rotted people’s minds to the point where they no longer understand truth, justice, consequences, or personal responsibility. Toxic empathy has replaced biblical realism. Christians must stop the insanity of toxic empathy. We need a healthy dose of biblical realism.”

Amazing how disagreeing with Trump and the unconstitutional Gestapo tactics being employed in Minneapolis is “toxic empathy” and that “we need a healthy dose of biblical realism”? Since when is a book written by a group of male religious leaders centuries ago “reality”? And since when is being empathetic non Christian? Is this the definition of Christianity these days? Blind obedience to a man who wants to be a dictator and to his Gestapo style troops? Really, render unto Caesar?

Helfenbien then states, “The full investigation will reveal what happened, and body camera footage will provide clarity. Until then, we should not rush to judgment.” Rush to judgement? You mean like Helfenbien and his ilk have done? Calling Renee Good a domestic terrorist and blaming an innocent woman for her own murder is not a rush to judgment?

Helfenbien closes with, “Pray for law enforcement who risk their lives daily. Pray for Macklin Good’s family. Pray for wisdom for our leaders. And pray for a return to sanity in our cities where the rule of law — not the rule of the mob — prevails.” Ironically, this is the only thing he said that makes any sense. Yes, pray that the rule of law prevails and that Renee Good’s murderer and those who placed him in Minneapolis are brought to justice, pray for a return to sanity, pray for Congress to end of the insanity of Donald Trump’s administration.
