For those of you who might have thought I wasn't on the site much yesterday, well, I wasn't.
At about two p.m. PDT yesterday, sitting here at my desk, I began to feel a bit ill, and over the next two hours, this increased into an excruciating pain in my lower right abdomen. After about twelve hours of medical shenanigans and a trip to the emergency room, I got the news:
Good news, I had a kidney stone!
Why good news? Because in my mind, it had already likely become a raging gall bladder that would have to be removed, necessitating giving up such gastronomic delights as bacon, cheeseburgers, butter, coffee, omelets, salads bigger than my head, and lots of other good things.
A tiny kidney stone, only 3mm on the scan, could be passed with some meds, some pain relievers, and some pain. (Ouch.)
Not the best of news, but better than a gall bladder operation. :)
I got home at 4 in the morning, had an egg, bacon, and cheese sandwich to celebrate, and went to bed.
And here I am. :)

Whew!
Sounds as though you avoided the infections that accompanied my recent stones, a kidney infection on the left one that had me in the hospital for a few days. and then a stone in the right kidney three weeks later that came with a bladder infection. (First two stones I've had in decades; hope it isn't a trend.)

No infections or evidence of any infections. The simplicity of the problem is really the lucky outcome. 3mm is about 1/8 of an inch for SAE enthusiasts. :) Between a tiny pebble and a large grain of sand. Not a joy to contemplate passing thru a tube a little less than twice as big, but better than some alternatives.
Do please take care of yourself. :)
Hugs,
Erin

Sympathy!
I've had kidney stones a couple of times. I feel your pain!
Ouch!
Aijaijai !!!
I remember sitting in a pool of water while they used ultra-sound to explode the stones into tinier fragments. Twice over the years! The second time, I awoke from the anaesthesia and was on my way back to my room when all the fragments decided to come out at once and they had to put me under again. I feel for ya!!!!!!!!

giving up such gastronomic delights as bacon, cheeseburgers, etc
My gallbladder has been gone for 25 years and I still eat all that and more. There's no way I'd give up coffee. Let's not even talk about it.

A Trophy
Things one may do with a kidney stone? Humm encase it in clear epoxy with attached key chain as a survival trophy? Put it in a portrait, you in a bikini on the beach, holding it between your fingers. (look what I found). Smother it in bacon grease, put it in front of the mouse hole in the wall hopping the mouse chokes on it and no more mouse? Put it in an empty pill bottle. Print a new label, cyanide) and back of the cabinet where you keep all the other pill bottles you no longer open but haven't tossed out? Any snoop who looks in your med cabinet no longer has to guess your state of mind.
Hugs Erin, need any more helpful ideas, let me know.
