Strange DNA Chapter 10

Vesper couldn’t believe how much work it was taking to modernize the house. Gus had hired a newly created construction company that has only done a few jobs in town and who had the lowest bid for the job. The owner of the company was a nice-looking man, that was six years older than her and he didn’t mind her taking pictures of him and his men at work.

Gus notices Vesper watching the owner of the construction company he hired. This was the first time he has ever seen her take an interest in anyone. A smile appears on his face, because it would be nice if she found someone to spend her life with.

Day after day Vesper works with the construction crew taking orders from Stephen O'Sullivan. There was something about him that she found charming and manly. She knew he was six years older than her.

She treats the men to lunch and sometimes bring beer or whatever they liked drinking. Mostly on Fridays or Saturdays when they have a bunch of stuff that needs to be done. One day Stephen asks her out to dinner and she says yes.

Since she hasn’t dated that much, she asks Dorothy for advice. Dorothy helps Vesper pick out a nice outfit to wear. They also go to one of the salons she has always wanted to visit, but never had the nerve to enter.

Vesper has her hair styled and her nails done as well. She watches as the nail technician does her nails. She wants to be able to do her nails on her own like the technician does them.

After her and Dorothy are pampered, Vesper goes back to Gus and Dorothy’s house to get ready for her date. For now, Vesper is staying with Dorothy and Gus until her house is ready to move into. She gave up her studio apartment and fixed any problems she might have caused while living there. She wanted her deposit back.

When Stephen arrived to pick her up for dinner. She noticed he wasn’t in his work truck, but a nice series 5 BMW.

“Wow!” Vesper was impressed by Stephen when she sees him get out of the driver side and walk around to open the passenger side door for her.

“My lady, your ride has arrived.” Stephen opens the passenger side door for Vesper.

“Thank you, kind sir.” Vesper carefully gets into the car.

After she is inside the car, Stephen closes the car door. He walks around to the driver side and gets back in. He looks at Vesper “you look beautiful, tonight.”

“Thank you.” Vesper blushes, because no one has ever said that to her before.

Stephen smiles at Vesper as he drives them to the country club he belongs to. Vesper has heard of the place, and knew her parents have been trying to get membership for years. Stephen is perfect gentleman as he escorts her inside. The hostess when they enter ask if they had a reservation.

Debbie looks at the young woman and older man. She knew who Stephen O'Sullivan was, but didn’t know who the young woman was.

“O’Sullivan.” Stephen looks at Debbie when he speaks.

“Ah, yes. Party of two. Right this way Mr. O’Sullivan.” Debbie turns and escorts the two of them inside.

After they are seated, a waitress brings them menus. She looks at them “do you know what you would like to drink?”

“Yes, two sweet iced teas, please.” Stephen knew Vesper drunk Iced tea at the construction site.

A smile appears on Vesper’s face, because she was thinking about that.

“I take it you approve?” Stephen saw the expression on Vesper’s face.

“I do, you’re very observant.” Vesper knew she drunk a bunch of sweet tea at the construction site.

“I try to be. So, what do you do when you’re not working on remodeling your place?” Stephen wanted to learn more about Vesper.

“I’m a freelance photographer, but I also work for the furniture store in town.”

“So, you work two jobs, and your boss at the furniture store doesn’t mind?” Stephen wonders how Vesper manages the two.

Vesper looks up at the waitress when their drinks are set down at their places. “Thank you.”

“Your, welcome ma’am. Are you ready to order, or do you need more time?” The waitress looks at the two.

“I’m ready, how about you Vesper?” Stephen looks at Vesper.

“I’m ready. I’ll like the grilled chicken with seasoned grilled vegetables and mash potatoes with the light gravy covering them, please.” Vesper closes the menu and hands it to Stephen after he orders.

“I’ll have the steak, medium well done. I would also like sauteed mushrooms and onions covering the steak. I would like the same grilled
seasoned vegetables as the lady, and the mash potatoes covered in brown gravy.” Stephen accepts Vesper’s menu and hands both of them to the waitress.

Both of them watches as the waitress walks off. Once she was gone, Stephen and Vesper face each other. They make small talk while waiting for dinner to arrive.

After dinner, they go dancing. Vesper had to recall the classical dance steps she learned back in high school. It was an after school extracurricular course she took. She was hoping to get asked to the prom, but never got asked.

She could tell that Stephen was the better dancer. She was enjoying being in his hands and close to his body. After dancing for several songs, they pay their bill, leaving a big tip.

On the way home, Vesper looks at Stephen “I had a really good time tonight.”

“I’m glad you did. How about we do it again next week, on Friday?” Stephen turns to look at Vesper after they pull into the driveway leading to Gus’s house.

“I would like that, very much.” Vesper leans forward and kisses Stephen.

He returns the kiss “good.”

Stephen gets out of the car and walks around to the passenger side and escort Vesper to the front door. They kiss one more time before she goes inside the house. A smile appears on Stephen’s face as he walks back to his car and leave.
