Strange DNA Chapter 5

Vesper shivers as she walks around the city square, taking pictures of the Thanksgiving decorations, the town is putting up. Since Halloween, she has been kind of busy with small jobs. Several shops in town had her come by and take pictures of their decorations.

She managed to sell several of her pictures to the local newspaper and online to several news agencies as well. The town she lived in was nice during the holidays when it put up all the decorations for the different holidays.

The local car show takes place every third Saturday of each month. They hired Vesper to come in and take pictures of everyone’s vehicle so they could create a yearlong calendar for their club. She didn’t mind doing that and showed them each a picture she took on her tablet so they saw how the shot looked.

After getting paid for taking pictures of the cars, she deposits the money in the bank. She was going to have Thanksgiving with Gus and his wife. She already knew how her adopted family felt about her.

They sent a picture of them skiing at some location. It was one of the places she wanted to go for her sixteenth birthday, but never did. Now that she was older, she might think about going to the ski resort she wanted to vacation at.

She was glad that the manager at the furniture store where she worked didn’t mind her taking so many days off. Vesper knew the winter months were going to be slow for her. However, with all the winter concerts coming up and activities the town does every year. She’ll have plenty to do until New Year's.

Vesper walks around thinking about what to buy Gus and his wife. Gus was hard to shop for, because he had particular things he liked. She walked by the ABC store and knew there wasn’t anything in there he would want. He stopped drinking hard liquor before she met him.

As for Gus’s wife, Dorothy. She knew what Dorothy would love. Dorothy was the person whom she wished were her mother, instead of the one she had been raised by.

Vesper steps into an antique store she knew Dorothy liked to visit and looks around at what they have on display. She spots several items that she knows Dorothy would love and pay for. Vesper makes arrangements to come by later with her SUV to pick up her purchase.

She leaves that store feeling proud of herself. As for Gus, she was going to have to spend more time looking for a gift for him. She had some idea what he would like. She stops by the local church that does Thanksgiving dinner and Christmas dinner for the homeless. She signs up to help serve the meals.

After signing up will be informed when to show up. She leaves and does some more shopping. She stops at a pawn shop to see what cameras they have. She knew Gus had been looking for a certain type of camera, but he hadn’t been able to locate it. She doesn’t find anything at the pawn shop that she might like.

She continues to walk around and does some window shopping. Afterwards, she gets her SUV and drives over to the antique store to pick up the item she bought for Dorothy. After Vesper is loaded up, she drives back towards her place. On the way home, she stops and picks up some dinner. She didn’t feel like cooking.

After taking everything into her apartment, she sits down and enjoys her dinner. Vesper looks at the images on her tablet and selects a few that would be good to blow up and display. She moves them to a special folder to do later.

All the genetic anomalies about her body were things that only affected a small percentage of people. She does wonders who her birth parents are and how she inherited everything. She wonders if anyone else in her true bloodline has as many unusual genetic traits as she does.

She traces her ears and how they go pointy at the top like Vulcan ears. She could pass as an elf as well. She dressed as an elf for Halloween. People who encounter her wonder how she got her ears.

After working for several hours, Vesper puts everything away and goes to take a shower before she goes to bed. By the time she exits from the shower and puts her night clothes on. She lies down in bed and falls asleep.

The next morning, when Vesper woke up, she could hear the rain hitting against the windows of her studio apartment. The temperature was a little cooler than normal in her place. She turns the valve on the radiator that heats her studio apartment.

She wishes she had a thermostat as she had at home, but she didn’t. So, she was still learning about how to maintain the temperature in her studio apartment. Vesper moved the curtain aside and saw that it was raining cats and dogs outside.

“Well, that sucks.” Vesper brews some coffee and sits down at her computer desk and check her email while the coffee brews.

Vesper ends up clearing out a bunch of junk email. She couldn’t believe how much junk she got. She had her filters set to block most of the junk, but some kept getting past her filter. She checks her schedule and notices she has the day off from work.

Instead of getting dressed, Vesper stays in her nightclothes. She didn’t have much to do, so Vesper did an eBay search to see if she could find the camera that Gus wanted. It takes her a while to find it, but she finally does. It was expensive, but Gus was worth it. He’s been like a father and a friend to her.

Vesper places the order and pays a little extra to have it delivered faster. Once she was done with that, she browsed some of her favorite websites. On one site, she submits some of the pictures she had taken. She wanted people to see some of the unique things that were interesting to her.

She notices, she has a doctor appointment. They needed to check her estrogen levels. Since her body didn’t produce any testosterone. Nor could she take testosterone pills or shots. Her body didn’t like them at all.
