Strange DNA Chapter 4

Vesper stands back and takes pictures of the Halloween crowd as they go through the trail that had been created to scare people. She loved taking pictures and preserving the moment of surprise or event. She had come dressed as a Starfleet officer from the Star Trek Discovery show. She had her hair done back, showing off her Vulcan-style ears.

The costume itself, she made from scratch. She even disguised her camera, so it looked like something from the 32nd century. She combined the idea from Babylon 5 when a bunch of reporters came to interview Captain John Sheridan and Delenn.

“How are the pictures coming, Vesper?” Marcus came walking over to where Vesper was standing.

Vesper turns her head when she hears Marcus Morris, the organizer of the haunted forest. He was dressed as a Klingon along with several guys and women who decided to do a Klingon death ritual.

“It’s going well. Your people scared a group of kids, but other than that. The other customers loved the scenes and monsters on display.” Vesper loved how everything looked.

“I saw. Those kids were too young to know about Klingons. I love your costume. Are you a Trekkie?”

“I love Star Trek, Star Wars, and Babylon 5. Not to mention Firefly as well.” Vesper watched all the different shows on her desktop computer because he mother and father didn’t like them. She has never been to any of the cons when they are in town.

“Well, you look good.”

“Thanks, and so do you. I can say, if I didn’t know you. I would be scared.”

“Well, we can always see what Vulcan meat tastes like.” An evil look appears on Marcus's face.

“Let’s not and say we did.” Vesper waves as she walks off to take a couple’s picture who were waving her over.

Marcus smirks as he goes to check on the others. He loved dressing up as a Klingon. He joins the others to scare some kids.

Vesper ends up staying until two in the morning, taking pictures and joining the actors afterwards for a little party. She puts her gear away and heads home. She had another appointment tomorrow morning.

Vesper slept like a log throughout the night, and when her alarm clock went off, she slapped the snooze button. When the alarm went off a second time, she slapped the alarm again and dragged herself out of bed. She walks into the bathroom and does her morning business, and takes a semi-cold shower to wake up.

Once Vesper is dressed and made up. She leaves and grabs a cup of her favorite coffee on the way. Today’s assignment was taking pictures for a real estate friend of hers. They were going to stage several homes and take pictures of them.

Vesper meets up with her friend and some of her assistants and gets to work. Every time Vesper takes a picture, it appears on her tablet, so her friend can see how everything looked. If it didn’t look right, furniture and pictures are rearranged. A second shot is taken, and the furniture is rearranged again.

By four in the afternoon, Vesper and her friend had finally shot their last house. Vesper looks at her friend Estraya. “I think we did a good job today.”

“I think you're right, Vesper.” Estraya loved how the four houses they shot today came out.

Estraya pays Vesper in cash for her services. The two women hug each other before leaving. Vesper heads towards the bank to deposit the
cash. So far she has been doing good.

The money she had to spend on her apartment and her new SUV was slowly being replenished. Between her freelance jobs and the job at the furniture store. She should have enough money to have her birth defect removed by the middle of next year.

Vesper stops at the local diner near her place and has dinner at the place. She was tempted to take a picture of her plate of food, but she wasn’t a foodie poster. She had friends who were, but she wasn’t.

After dinner, Vesper heads home. The temperature had dropped, and she wanted to get inside her warm apartment. When she walked inside her apartment, she relaxed and took her boots off.

Vesper downloads all the pictures to her server and stores the images. She pulls the memory card out and puts a new one in. She also changes out the 35mm film from her other camera and puts fresh film in it as well. She’ll develop the film tomorrow.

After taking care of everything, Vesper strips out of her clothes and lies down. She had to be at work early tomorrow. The store was getting in some new furniture, and the manager wanted to take pictures of it in a formal setting.

The next morning arrives, and Vesper finds herself helping the warehouse crew arrange the furniture in a mock-up living room. It takes them at least four times to get the furniture set up right. She takes several pictures and shows them to the manager of the store.

“Let’s take one more and let's move the end tables to a different position.”

“Okay.” Vesper adjusts her position as the guys move the end tables.

“Good. Did you get that, Vesper?” Robbie looks over towards Vesper when he asks.

“Yep, I got it.” Vesper got several good shots.

“Good. How soon can you have those shots for me?” Robbie wanted to get started on the ads.

“By lunch.” Vesper sits down and starts working on the pictures.
