That Colonel is gonna convince his parents that this whole BS sitch was Alex's idea and that he volunteered for it. He is not going to be able to straighten the record with him there.
I would gladly kill that Colonel if I were in Alex's position at this point.

Yep, if I was in Alex's shoes I would be "Fragging" a Colonel.
Hmm, in the US when we get an acting rank we don't get a pay raise. All we get is the right to wear the rank insignia and the responsibilities of that rank. In an Op like this I suspect the US Army would promote a Private (guessing that Alex is the Brit equivalent to an E-2,) to Specialist (E-4) with a promotion to Sergeant (E-5) on successful completion of the mission.
Just for explaination here. The US Army rank table is as follows for enlisted soldiers. Private (E-1) is usually a recruit. Next is Private (E-2) then Private First Class (E-3), (I believe the UK Army uses Lance Corporal for this grade.) Then we have two ranks at E-4. Specialist is the rank given to soldiers who are not in a leadership position and Corporal is considered to be a Non-commissioned Officer. Corporal is usually used in combat arms specialties. Sergeant (E-5) is the first enlisted pay grade that does not come as an automatic promotion for time in service. E-5 and higher require that the soldier complete specific NCO Professional Development Courses and also pass a promotion board. Then you have to wait for your promotion based on the promotion list and how many promotion points you have earned via awards, how well you did on the board and other factors. After E-5 is Staff Sergeant (E-6), Sergeant First Class (E-7), First Sergeant or Master Sergeant (E-8) (1SGT is the senior NCO of a company sized unit and MSGT is a Staff position.) last is E-9 which actually consists of 3 separate ranks. Sergeant Major which is a Staff rank at Division or higher level, Command Sergeant Major which is the senior NCO of any unit larger than a company and last is the Sergeant Major of the Army.

I'm wondering about his slender build, lack of much muscle development, almost non need to shave and androgynous appearance BEFORE the surgery and hormones. Add it all up and I wonder if he isn't really a she and the bastards haven't told her? Still am suspicious this is either an operation organized at the last minute to counter a terrible threat thus the use of this my way or the highway jerk off of an officer and staff. IE they were picked because they have a record of getting the job done, the dirty jobs done. Or this is a totally rogue operation.
And why HIM and not a her? I find it hard to believe there is not even ONE young woman with the required skills in the military somewhere?

i am shocked that you all having so many probs
with the colonel. He's acting on orders, and likely making up training as he goes, because i know for fact some spec.ops have used males instead of females. why not a woman in 1st place, because the civies would be pissin all over the place worse than you all have with the Col. if there was a blown (no pun) mission and a real female got hurt or raped.

If Alexander is that good of a tech, then planning to give fair pay for foul play would be to screw up what ever equipment he could get close to. Because running isn't an option the way Stone breaths down his neck.
Stone did keep his word in letting Alexander see his parents, only after telling them some cock and bull story. A story he's basically forced Alexander to follow.
Stone has exhibited his lack of concern for anyone, given how Alexander was Shanghaied for the supposed mission. How Stone ever reach his supposed rank based on how Alexander has been treated is a wonder.
One thing Alexander best start accepting is that he isn't going to be returning as his former self. Alex is there to stay and be used as Stone sees fit. Unless Stone takes a long walk off a short plank over a deep canyon, which would be a good thing to happen.
