The papers announced the war in Afghanistan was reaching a conclusion but also a stalemate.
It would be many years before the government could operate without the backing of the Western Allies and Pakistan was actually going downhill and creating a lot of mayhem.

Sorry about how long this took.

Author's note:- I'm trying to keep this consistent in science, which being invented is quite awkward - forgive any anomalies!

The idea for this story came from a short, inspirational email that was shared with me a few years ago. I thought the message behind it was quite lovely and wanted to somehow turn it into a story to share with everyone. It took almost two years for a story to develop where I could use it in a way to honor the beauty it was written in. If I knew of the original author, I would like to include them...but as with much that is passed around in cyberspace, they are unknown. All I can do is say, thank you for the inspiration...I only hope my story does justice to your beautiful, and uplifting message.

Cassandra predicts another attempted attack on Rose and her family, but something is different about it. Rose acts her age. When she gets back to school, she is asked to be an unpaid translator for a brand new hybrid, to help her get through the semester finals. Life is not an after school special.

I felt as if I was being wrung out like a washing rag, the pain started in my gut, moving to my head and what I was seeing seemed to fade to white.

Rose is interrogated by the police, then told to leave the country as soon as her father recovered enough. An unusual savior foils another attempt to blow up the family. But despite everything, Rose has to do her homework.
