I decided to see what a story of crossing Mighty Morphin Power Rangers with the revived Quantum Leap show and came up with this using a bit of help from Google Gemini.

I had intended to leave this story after Part 6, but Part 7 was largely written, so rather than cutting off the story part way through I have uploaded it. I know the number of readers have been dropping steadily. That is understandable, but I do hope that many of you who have persevered have enjoyed the stories.

Stephanie - Part 6 - Squaring a circle

Two events overshadowed the trio’s calendar as the new University year approached. Firstly there was the potentially difficult day of Michael’s funeral and secondly the need to get Claire and Nigel on board with their unusual family arrangement.

At the end of a long day Stephanie, Graham and Jen were lounging in their new bed, but sleep had eluded them for the time being.

“Shall we try to contact some neighbouring Community members?”

“Yes, but how do we try?”

Stephanie - Part 5 - Community

Summary of parts 1-4.

Stephanie and her partner Graham woke one morning in each other's bodies having undergone a mind-swap. They were sixteen year old students at a local school who only knew each other by sight. They managed to meet and bonded in an intense empathetic relationship that would eventually lead to marriage and a family. Subsequently they helped several other couples come together and were helped financially by a community of similarly bonded people who had material advantages, but not superhuman abilities.

Hi, my name was Robert, and my girlfriend’s name was Rachel. We were both 25 years old at the time this most extraordinary event occurred. We were both laying in bed, just beginning to make love. I said to Rachel, “Sometimes I wish that I could be you, just to know what it feels like to be a girl.” She smiled and said, “That’s interesting, because sometimes I wish the same thing.

Alex had a terminal Cancer diagnosis and thought she would die before she got to be the girl she always was inside. That all changes when she's in the wrong place at the right time and gets transported to another world and into the body of a girl. So what if she's not human, she's alive and a girl. Now if only she had her sister with her to navigate this new world and her new responsibilities. Wait, she's here too? The passage of their souls between worlds may have doomed the Earth to apocalypse, but Alex and Michelle won't be there to see it and they have enough problems on their hands.
 

Learning More About the World

On the fourth day, wanting to make a different form from my others, I adopted the traditional style of the genie, a spirit which had the upper half of a male human which arose from a cloud. The legless body simply flew or floated instead of walking, and by having only a cloud below the waist, naturally didn’t have sexual organs.

When Charles Miller received the call on his Pip-Boy that he had been chosen, he could hardly believe it. Finally, his years of work as an engineer had been recognized. He and his wife, Barbara, would finally have a place secured in a vault, safe from the threat of nuclear war.

Brimming with pride and hope for the future, Charles left his home for the orientation meeting, imagining the security that awaited them if war happened. But when he arrived, joining twenty-nine others in a sleek corporate conference room, his hope began to crumble.

The CEO of RobCo stood before them with grim news: nuclear war was not just a possibility… it was hours away. And the vault door was closing.

Historical Changes

Later in high school, I had a chance to choose a 20th-century subject for a paper for history class, and I chose to research and write about the impact of the Change on the clothing industry. This was a way I could incorporate studying the Change in my schooling while maintaining long-term focus on making the ether device. Some of it was predictable given what changed, but it was interesting nonetheless. I’ve included a version of it here, just slightly edited for an Earth audience.

I was born a girl here. At least, that’s what my parents said. When I inspected myself, I found myself to have a penis, but they seemed sure I was a girl.

I wasn’t born as a baby boy or a baby girl. I was both!

My earliest memory is discovering I was in an egg, and having to fight my way out of it. My giant mother breast-fed me. My father was larger than me, but only by the degree I would expect, or even less than that. He had a normal-sized house inside the huge house where my mother lived.

I realized I wasn’t in a womb; I was in an egg. They said anything was possible when you ethertraveled, and that was one of those possibilities; many ethertravelers had reported being born from eggs.

I tried to bust my way out of the egg, but failed at first. I slept again later, and the next time I awoke I was feeling hungry. The yolk sac was empty. Now I really needed to hatch, to break my way out of the egg. I couldn’t tell whether I had arms or wings at this point, but they had elbows. After trying several other strategies, by poking both elbows to opposite sides at the same time, I was able to break a hole in the eggshell. Once it was broken, it was pretty easy to break the rest of it.

Besides being long in the past compared to the time onthe Earth I came from, there was a major difference, and it had to do with restrooms. I was 4 when my parents first spoke with me directly about it.

“Kevin, you’re going to go off to school pretty soon, and you’re going to have a choice.”

“What’s the choice?” I asked, not yet connecting this with what I’d heard about restrooms and thinking I was going to get to choose between different schools.

As fall approached, I knew my flower was not going to last. Sakura and I decided we were going to leave, and we told the others our goodbyes. Nobody had any problem at all with it. I suspect the original five had mostly not been born here, but migrated from who knows where, so they understood our desire to go see other places.

Several days later I asked them about the other people they had mentioned lived across the stream. My friends didn’t seem to be on a friendly basis with them. When we got there, we found that whoever had lived there was gone, with only the dead remains of their flowers left, which meant in all likelihood they were dead. They hadn’t eaten the flower remains, and my friends had told me how unlikely a merger was, much less three of them.

I was in a grassy field, but I couldn't tell what I was.

I saw a green-skinned girl enter the field, a prepubescent girl with green skin and no hair, and seemingly naked. She came pretty close, maybe examining me, whatever I was. She walked about 100 feet away, dug a small hole with her hands, and squatted down over it. Maybe she pooped there? She covered it up with the dirt and grass she dug from the hole, then left.

The next day, a group of girls similar to the first one came by. I couldn’t tell if the original one was part of the group. They came right up and touched me. I could feel the touches even though I couldn’t tell what it was they were touching. One of them said something I thought sounded like “Soon, soon.” Sort of, anyway; I don’t think I actually heard the words, but I definitely understood it even though I’d just arrived here and had no idea what language they might speak. Some of them went to other spots in the field and pooped in holes like the first girl did.
