Some days you get a lucky, a kind word gets you a password, which lets you copy a database, which fetches a rather large amount on the black market. Other days, well, someone else goes for the same mark as you and everything goes wrong. The emergence of meta-humans in the world was never going to affect that too much. Oh, and I'm a naíve fool, did I mention that?

You see, my life was one of the best I could have, coding by daylight and occasionally skimming large sums money off of those who could afford it. But sometimes; sometimes things don't go quite according to plan.

This is one of those times.

A Comic Retcon tale that gets a little dark towards the end.

I met Donahue along with several others from the platoon I was more and more starting to think of as my people in a tunnel leading off from the main cavern and stopped when I saw the large plastic bag on a gurney. “Where did you find him?”

Our Secondary Base, the Beta site it was called was in a huge frigging cave buried under a mountain. Looking around as I got out of the helicopter that had delivered me I recalled the conversation in the Colonel’s office the day before yesterday.

While one must respect the shadows, and the power they hold, it would be prudent to not forget the power of the world in which we live. While the shadows hide and cower from the sun, the tangible forces at work create a more obvious effect. This reason explains why many are unaware of the shadows. Why worry, when the light shines so brightly?
