"They're going to loan me a car and collect mine from the pub," said Simon poking his head through the open window of Stella's car, "So if Cathy would like to come with me, we'll go and get her bike before the garage gets there."

What could I do, he had me by the sprockets? I began to get out of Stella's car.

I don't think I have ever felt so embarrassed in all my life, although the way things were going since being knocked off my bike, it could well happen.

Chapter 9

The sun was really warm on my back as I lay there on the back lawn of the house. I was propped up on my elbows and reading one of the magazines that I had been assigned. I wasn’t keen on articles on how to please my man, or many other things but I was sure there was some sort of purpose for all of this. At least I hoped there was. As long as they didn’t test me on “20 ways to please your man in Bed” I would be fine.

        Christina could feel time stalking her all day. She'd called Steph last night after dinner to give her all the bloody details of their double date.

        Steph, of course, had been absolutely elated. She'd explained that the Clairmont Inn was a small bed and breakfast on the edge of town. Its dining room was the closest thing to an extravagant restaurant Oak Grove had to offer, and it was certainly the most romantic place anyone could have picked.

        Had Christina known this, she would have insisted that they go anywhere else, but it was too late now. While she was sure that the day was dragging for Steph, she could feel the minutes slipping away. She wondered if this is what it felt like to be on Death Row.

I collected the jacket I had borrowed from Stella, from the back of my chair, and slipped it on. My head was throbbing, although the ice pack had reduced the egg from duck sized to bantam. At times it felt as if the chicken were still attached to it.

I awoke shaking and sweating, tangled in my sheets. My dreams had been filled with lots of nightmares, of taunting and beatings by faceless jocks or being exposed and laughed at by faceless girls. I remembered half-waking a few times through the night, to be calmed and soothed by Meredith. I vaguely recalled her holding me and murmuring in my ear. She was still curled about me, breathing softly. She looked like she had slept well. Lucky her.

Chapter One: Awakenings

Jason woke slowly. There was an ache in his body and his head was pounding. There was a feeling of wrongness as he slowly fought his way to consciousness. He went to wipe the detritus of sleep from his eyes, and became aware of a problem. His hand was manacled up and away from his body.

Moments after his fact made itself known, its implications percolated into his awareness, and alarm chased the remnants of sleep from his mind. Shaking his head to clear his wits he took stock of his situation.

Synopsis: Terri has to learn magic from somewhere, and an old promise is coming back to haunt her, but first she has to deal with her new outfit, which has a mind of it's own.

Somehow we made it to our table, Stella and me that is, Simon had stopped to talk to some bloke near the entrance. "You won't mention those two to Simon, will you?" I asked, almost pleaded with Stella.

"No, I'll just go and ask them to join us," she joked. "Look I might only be a nurse, but I do have some functioning brain cells."
