As I awoke, I realised without opening my eyes that I was on some sort of sofa. I felt strange, disorientated and surrounded by lots of people.

‘She’s awake,’ I heard faintly and then it all rushed back. I was away from danger and my parents were here!

My eyes snapped open and there she was–Mummy...

‘Everyone down on the floor,’ I ordered as I looked in the large mirrors and reversed with considerable difficulty.

It was easier said than done backing up the bus like that, with bullets whizzing all around–it was so flaming big! Luckily, the people firing at us were rotten shots and I managed to get out of the line of fire before getting pranged.

As soon as I could, I stopped, gently nudging a red telephone box, but considering everything it wasn’t a bad effort.

I looked at her and almost fainted.

‘P—p—pregnant––?’

‘Yes, you heard right, no need to wash out your ears. You are one hundred percent certifiably pregnant.’

I gripped the handle of the umbrella tightly. Eve held on to Nicola by the shoulders. Ben looked alert and ready to pounce. Jeanie was terrified–

She opened the door with a rush–

I raised the umbrella, ready to brain whoever was outside––

‘Quick, Jeanie,’ I shouted. ‘Oxygen!’

We all rushed to the back, almost trampling over one another in the desperate hurry to get to the oxygen cylinders. As we put the masks on, I looked over my shoulder feverishly at the green fog advancing ever closer.

I had a problem the other day. There were several tractors, other bits of mobile farm machinery and lethal looking things that would mince you up and spit you out if you were silly enough to get in the way all going up and down my little lane..

To explain, I am surrounded by fields and have just a small lane to the front. Hence the farm traffic.

I didn’t stop. I had no idea if anyone was watching me, but to say I was stunned would be an understatement. I now knew for certain that I was being manipulated and that the authorities were playing mind games with me–and all the other students. The one thing I couldn’t understand was why?

A real tearjerker!

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

I went to the cinema last night and saw Hachiko: A Dog's Story. I cried my eyes out. It was such tear jerker and based loosely on a Japanese story.

It also reminded me of the wonderful Greyfriars Bobby.

If you like a good cry and a very good story, see it if you can.

Please note that due to adverse comments and because of the subject matter, I have regretfully decided to un-publish the story.

I may return to the story at a later time, but at the moment I will not do so.

I apologise to all my readers as I hate not finishing the story which was to be one of resistance and fortitude but I am aware of the current sensitivity about minors in stories and I have taken the decision not to continue.

I was reading an excellent story and one of the comments was and I quote:

This story is very similar to another story posted.....

I hate to see this sort of comment as the implication, to me anyway, is that the story might in some way be plagiarism, even if that isn't the intended meaning.

A lot of my stories have had that sort of comment and I must admit that I take it personally.

The writers of those comments might mean something like 'Oh, I like this so try that story', but it doesn't read that way.

Quote in a story that makes me laugh!

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

As I sat and read Susan Grafton's excellent A is for Alibi, I came across this gem:

"The only cleavage I got left, I sit on,"

I was mid sip on a cup of coffee as I read ( I shouldn't do that!) and I nearly covered the sofa with cofee.

Anyone else have any wonderful quotes they can remember like that?

I was still rather sleepy and fell asleep again. When I wakened sometime later and opened my eyes, it took me a few seconds to realise where I was, and felt down below. Sitting up in bed, it dawned on me that, instead of pyjamas, I was wearing a nightdress: it was very soft, cream coloured and seemed to be made of satin.

Well, who is right then

Taxonomy upgrade extras:

Quite often I read a story and the phrase 'I could care less' crops up.

For example 'I could care less about you.'

As far as I am aware, in the good ol' UK we say 'I couldn't care less about you.'

So which is right or are they both right?

Hugs

Sue

PS, Another good one is the use of 'is all,' rather than 'that's all.'but I'm not sure about the context on that one.

I have a story published on Stardust called The Chosen.

When I wrote it, I envisioned a time in the not too far distant future, when the world was facing a crisis.

The story is about a world where girls are no longer being born. The consequence of this was, eventually we as a species would die out.

Just to let you know that I have posted a new story called The Chosen on Stardust. I will be posting it here, if I get a positive response about a week later.

Any new chapters will be published the same way.

If anyone knows how to make the story look nicer, especially on the Stardust front page, I would be grateful for any help. It's not as easy as BCTS!
