The Real Score about Fanfiction and Fair Use

Hi.

I was reading a blog here in the Big Closet, titled "Fan Fiction." (see https://bigclosetr.us/topshelf/blog-entry/79528/fan-fiction )

I was interested in the topic because I knew something about it because it's part of the work that I do, and I thought I could pick up something that may be useful at work next time I have to deal with the same thing again. And, besides, I have several fanfiction stories here.

Anyway, though I am not a lawyer, I've been fielding questions and issues relating DCMA, derivative works and Fair Use for a while now. So I have a fairly substantial knowledge about it, IMHO.

So I thought I'd share what I know about fanfiction and Fair Use (I know my facts are backstopped, but feel free to verify the things I say here if you want - I won't mind, though I ask that, if you disagree, that we not fight or argue, okay? Let's be civil).

Is anyone else seeing visited links intermittently showing properly or not when opening a new webpage on the site? I don't know whether it is my Safari browser or the site that is causing this issue.

I've lost track of another story I wanted to reread too. As I recall the protagonists are long time friends (male and female) that are out of college. He wants a romantic relationship with her and so does she, but she is a lesbian. She is also a brilliant scientist that works on computer VR and medicine that has implications for mind control and changing a person's sex.

I got tired of the Win 7 validate nag (This Windows is not genuine) and reinstalled my OS, I knew this would involve some pain, loosing my pigeon connection and the BCTS chat room link was a casualty (the link on the front page is broken again. If someone could help me I shore would appreciate it ( I know, it is sure, but I do have a dialect to maintain ) Part of why I did it was my lappy keyboard was going out and I added a new USB keyboard to it.

The Good and the Bad

The sewer in my basement has backed up... again! Fortunately, I managed to catch it pretty early and nothing important inside the house is damaged, but I did have to go to the laundromat to wash all the clothes that got sewage on them... NOT FUN! The last time it backed up, a lot of stuff got thrown out and nothing important is stored down there. Unfortunately, this time the back up was caused by the main sewer line collapsing. Which means I can't use my toilet or shower or really use any running water at this point.

just had the idea for a video game that would show through metaphor what transition is like - like you have to navigate the health care system maze, you can collect estrogen (or testosterone) as power ups, and so on,

Virtually Twisted - The Naked March

Jim awakens to find himself surrounded by onlookers, but as he becomes aware of his new, and very naked, female body he realized he has much bigger problems.

This particular part of the story sparked the most debate of anything I've ever written. Looking back, I believe much of the criticism was warranted, but this time around I hope I've managed make this so called 'naked march' more plausible. Before leaping to conclusions please be assured there will be repercussions at the end of story that I hope will satisfy any of the remaining naysayers.
