Run, Run, Run Chapter 14

Talia excels in her studies at college, while also learning as much as she can about Private Investigation. She forms a group with other LGBTQ people who want to change the law about the gender identification process and start forming committees across the state to gather enough signatures to put the request on the next election. Most of the republican senators and congresspeople they have spoken to about changing the law, denied them. Saying, you are the gender you are born, even after the medical report Talia shows them about herself and several other intersex people.

So, the only way they can get it done would be to place it before the voters on election day. But to do that, she needed to collect five hundred thousand signatures throughout the state. She doesn’t know if enough people are willing to do that, but she was going to try. The committee she was a member of got together to try and see if other members in other cities would be willing to help.

They set up websites and social media pages to circulate on the web. Talia also increases her t-shirt business, having other people in the transgender community to help her either create new shirts, beach bags, hats, cup holders, custom cups, and other items, so the message gets out to the public whatever money they can save, they run television ads.

While she is doing all these things, she draws both positive and negative attention to herself. On the positive side, several city, state senators, and congressional members offered to help get the message she was doing across. Along with the signatures to get the amendment on the ballot, they offer to help put legislation through to get things changed for medical reasons and such. They admit that it might be impossible because the republican party controls both houses of state legislatures and the governorship as well.

An evil thought surfaces as Talia starts researching the loudest republicans who have a big issue against the LGBTQ community and starts investigating those members. She may not be a full private investigator yet, but she has been learning from everyone at her work and is good at researching.

Since Talia has been working for the firm. She’s learned that there were people whom Mr. Garcia sometimes employed to do certain types of work that were sometimes questionable. It was in the grey area of the law and could be challenged. Mr. Garcia and some of the older investigators who employed these people kept their names secret.

She speaks to some of the investigators who deal with them and asks if she could hire those contacts for certain jobs. One of the investigators she approached was Alan Cox. He was an older gentleman whom most people who saw him wouldn’t know was a seasoned police detective.

Talia knocks gently on his office door before walking into his office. She waves at him, “I hope I’m not interrupting anything, Alan.”

Alan looks up and spots Talia at his doorway. A smile appears on his weathered face. “What can I do for you, Talia?”

“I need a favor, and I am hoping you can help me out.”

“Come on in and shut the door behind you.” Alan knew what Talia had been up to lately.

“Thanks.” Talia shuts the door and walks over and sits down in front of his desk.

Alan looks directly at Talia and notices she has changed her eyebrows. He could smell the flowery perfume she wore. “What can I help you with?”

Talia breathes in before she speaks. She was feeling a little nervous. “I was wondering if you could ask your special contact if they would be willing to do a job for me.”

“And what job would that be, and who is the person?” Alan wonders who Talia wanted information gathered on.

Talia pulls out a folded piece of paper from her pants pocket and hands it to Alan.

“These people.”

Alan accepts the paper and unfolds it. He recognizes the names on the paper. Most of them were well-connected and had a lot of influence at the capital. He looks at Talia, “Boy, you're shooting big.”

“I’m only doing what Mr. Garcia and my father have always said. If you’re going to do something, do it big.” Talia wanted to go after the people who always shot down every bill put through for the LGBTQ community.

“You know this is going to cost you, and if any of the information comes back. You can’t tell anyone where you got it.” Alan knew he had been investigated a few times for the information he got.

“I know, this is a big step for me, and I’m willing to pay the price for it.” Talia was getting tired of the laws in the book.

“Alright, let me get in contact with my source and see if they are willing to do this.” Alan folds the paper back up.

“Thanks, Alan.” Talia stands up and leaves Alan’s office.

She heads back to her desk to finish up on a report for school. Mr. Garcia suggested she should get her Bachelor's degree. He has been helping her with her assignments and guiding her. A lot of the other employees have as well.

The ones who used to be police officers and detectives arranged for her to attend some of the classes the police teach. Which she was very grateful for. She was also allowed to go through the police training course, but she didn’t do so well.

The instructor of the police academy wasn’t surprised but allowed her to keep trying. Sometimes they would allow her to go on patrol with them. If there was a call, she had to stay in the cruiser.

Talia still ran every morning before work or school. She didn’t run as far as she used to, but she knew running after people sometimes was required. One morning, while she is running, she is attacked by a huge pit bull. She tried to outrun it, but it overtook her and attacked her right leg. She tried punching, choking, and gouging the eyes out of the dog, as it ripped her leg muscles, and tore both her arms up while protecting her face and head.

She screamed out in pain and heard a gunshot as blood flowed into her eyes. Talia couldn’t move her legs and was in a lot of pain. Several people arrived to help her, and the paramedics arrived a few minutes later. She was taken to the hospital and tended to.

When blood samples were taken from the dog, they found out the dog had rabies. Talia had to be treated for rabies, and her body didn’t like it. She spends a week at home recovering. Her legs and arms look like they have gone through a meat grinder.

As for the pit bull that attacked her. It was shot by one of the people who came to rescue her. It was later examined, and that’s when the vet examining the dead dog found it was infected with rabies. No one was claiming to own the dog.
