Talia couldn’t believe the dog that attacked her had rabies. She was lucky that the hospital she had been taken to had done its own test and determined she had been infected. She was given the first of many shots that she would need to take to stop the rabies from infecting her.
As for the physical therapy that Talia was going to be forced to take, that was going to take her some time. The pit bull that attacked her did a number on her legs. The doctor who operated on her said it was going to take her longer to heal. He also informed her that she might not be as fast as she once was because of the damage to her legs.
As for her job at the detective agency, they were making accommodations for her to work while she was in a wheelchair. It was a good thing she had medical insurance at work and insurance for her disability as well. Technically, she didn’t have to report to the agency, but she risked losing a third of her pay if she used the insurance.
She would rather show up and be restricted to the office. As for the information she wanted, the person came through for her. Now, she had to go through all of it and see if she could find something to use against the person who had been shooting down all the LGBTQ bills being voted on. She knew there had to be a reason why every time a bill came up, it got shot down immediately.
One night, while Talia was resting outside on the front porch. A car that she has never seen before comes cruising through her neighborhood. Normally, she doesn’t pay that much attention to something like that, but the way the car was moving didn’t seem right to her. She takes her cell phone and records the car.
Talia noticed that the license plate was covered up as it slowly drove by her house. She follows the car with her camera and continues to record everything. Once it left the range of her camera and was blocked by the other cars on the road, Talia stopped recording. She didn’t know why it observed her, but something said she would be seeing it again.
Talia slides off the swing and into her wheelchair and heads into her house. She could smell the pork chops her mother made for dinner. She waves to her father as she wheels through the house. Her parents have been very helpful and understanding about what happened to her. Her brothers wanted to find out who owned the pit bull and inject the rabies virus into it.
The next day, Talia had to show up for physical therapy. She hated every minute of it, but she wasn’t going to let the attack get her down. Sometimes her brothers would show up and tease her to make her angry. She knew what they were doing and appreciated the fact that they cared.
As for college, she managed to follow along by video and turn her assignments in by email. She had her mother take her to the campus a few times, so her instructor saw her in person. She continues working on the campaign to change things in her city and state.
While Talia recovered from the rabies virus in her system, she kept an eye out for the car that had driven by her home. One night, while she was working late on a report for college. The floodlights around the house came on. She knew her dad had installed them several years ago because of the break-ins going on in the neighborhood.
She looks out her bedroom window and notices a figure running from her yard. She logs into the house server and brings up the security footage. She searches until she spots where the person came from.
Talia grabs her crutches and heads downstairs to check on the side of the house. She didn’t want to wake her parents or brothers yet. She walks outside with a flashlight, and when she gets to the side of the house, she spots what was written in big, bold, bright neon letters: PEDOPHILE LOVER! A SICK HOMOSEXUAL LIVES HERE!
Talia takes a picture of the graffiti and calls her father’s cell number. She was going to stay until her father came outside. “Dad, you'd better come outside.”
“What are you doing outside, Talia?” Conner comes outside wearing his house robe and slippers and spots Talia.
“Look what someone did to the house.” Talia points towards the writing.
Conner looked at the writing and couldn’t believe someone would do something like this. He looks towards his daughter and knows this was a smear against her.
“Me and your brothers will take care of it in the morning, sweetie.” Conner puts his arm around his daughter and helps her back into the house.
