green eyed monster?
I think the Mayor may be seeing the green eyed monster of Envy. That or she may be wanting to use Queen Tessa's good works to boost her own standing by being seen as a supporter. I just love how devoted Tessa has her people to her and to the veterans. Veterans will always have a special place with me as my son would be one. BRAVA QUEEN TESSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonderful story.
When you finish this wonderful adventure, I plan to read it again from beginning to end.

What's up, Ms Mayor?
Any good mayor would be interested in a major startup like the park.
But I suspect the mayor has another motive,
There should be health department approvals for the kitchens and fire department documents as well.
Gillian Cairns
Health Department
That's a good point. The mayor should have access to building permits, health department permits, etc. She should know the size of the dorms.
It's pretty obvious that the mayor is interested for more reasons than curiosity. But I haven't figured out yet if she's just interested in improving the town or just her own career.
As mayor
It's her job to be interested.
almost time for the big opening?
this should be great!
This Chapter Hit Me In The Feels!
All the things Tessa does for the community and for her employees have endeared her already and makes me wish that there was someone like her making a difference in the lives of LGBT . We know that our community struggles with unemployment , substance abuse issues and depression because of how politicians and religious zealots have treated us . With what Tessa is doing for so many , she probably could be elected Mayor if she really was inclined to run. As the mayor gets to know her more, she is going to figure out that her motives are not driven by anything other than true compassion and love for others . I love this story more and more every time I read a new chapter .
Politicians are Smarmy
Never known a politician who hasn't expected special treatment or had his hand out for a kickback. Politicians are like lawyers. They'll do things a self respecting sewer rat would never do.
That sounds ...
... so cynical. But it is true. (Even though there probably are a few rule-proving exceptions.)
I wish the world was different.

Exceptions
At the higher levels, there are a few, but perhaps more that are good actors.
At the local levels, I would expect to see more.
Tessa lives by the one commandment that I try to never forget...
There but for the grace of God, go I.
As the song says, we're all just one phone call from our knees. No matter how secure we may think we are, no matter how good our lives may seem, none of us are really 100% secure in life. It truly wouldn't take a very big change or a very long time for any one of us to be out on the street.
If we all kept that in mind and treated others as if we could very well be right there next to them, this world would be a better place.

Leave it to politicians to
Leave it to politicians to screw up a good thing, and I have a feeling that is exactly what this mayor is going to wind up doing in the end; or she is definitely going to give it a good try.
Wonder if she will try going for Tessa's background and who she is/was?
Who she was
Tessa makes no secret of her trans status.
I expect to see some backlash by some churches, along with accolades by the less legalistic congregations. She is, after all, loving her neighbors.
T's Crossed, I's dotted
Since Tessa is crossing all her T's and dotting her I's, she's got the ability to keep Madam Mayor at arms length, should the Mayor show that she's interesting in anything but finding something she could use to her advantage. I get a strong feeling, should Madam Mayor go beyond a friendly investigation, Tessa already has a contingency plan in place. I hope for her sake, the Mayor is just being a "Good" (I use this term loosely) Politician, and getting to know her Constituents.
Good mayor
It's her job to work for the good of the city. To get reelected, she has to at least appear to do so. And, Tessa and her park are so well loved that attacking her would be political suicide. If the mayor is smart, she will try to hitch her wagon to the park and maybe give Tessa the keys to the city or something like that.
The mayor seams nice
But I have a feeling there is something else about her I DON'T like. What exactly that is I don't know, but maybe ANTI LGBT? don't know for sure though. She seams threatened about her job though. I say she needn't worry unless there is a reading to be. I think Dave needs to dig into HER background THAT would be VERY intresting.
As for the Park and Threa Frost herself. Things areally going VERY well so far. I hope things KEEP going that way.

Nobody In Office...
...(or any other position of authority) wants to be blind-sided. I think that's what Elaine is worried about.
There are good reasons for the park not to announce an opening date before they're ready, and not to clue people in about shows and performers that aren't fully rehearsed yet. But obviously in the interests of things like traffic control and the expected influx of people into town when the facility reopens, it'd be very helpful for both sides if the town got enough advance notice to prepare for the opening.
I don't know whether Elaine's paranoid enough to think that an army, so to speak, of outsiders -- many of them pariahs of one kind or another with no reason to like the status quo -- could become a threat to law, order and civil authority. Or even whether it would really qualify as paranoia -- there are militias and sinister sects of various kinds who'd love to use something like this as cover for their activities. Further, I think Elaine could be excused if she thinks that people pledging their allegiance to "Queen Tessa" are either part of a cult of some sort or could become one awfully easily.
And don't forget that finance people from all over have said that rebuilding the park couldn't possibly make enough money to cover the initial investment. There has to be an ulterior motive. (There is, of course, but unless our author's not telling us everything, it's a benign one.)

"That could have be me"
Tessa's parents missed out on a very caring daughter, one who gives to others because she could have been one of them at one point. And she does so secretly because she isn't doing it to call attention to herself. She's doing it because she can, because it's needed, and because it's the right thing to do.
The mayor is an ignorant woman for someone in such a position. Her actions show she really has no idea how City Government works.
Had she really wanted to know what they had planned, she could have gone down to the City office which issues permits. A project the size of the park has to submit detailed plans which have to be approved by several departments before any permit is issued. Contractors have to be licensed and insured, connections to any City services must be approved.
That Mayor could have found out a lot about what was planned if she wanted too. But she has another agenda, one which is going to backfire as she's going to go up against Tessa, the girl who pulled herself up by her own boot straps. The woman who doesn't suffer fools lightly and takes no prisoners.
Mayor Elaine is about to go up against the unmovable Tessa Frost. And suffer a defeat which may cost her the office of Mayor, hopefully.
Others have feelings too.
Mayor Elaine
While she may seek to make political capital out of Tessa, I think at the moment it's mainly a combination of curiosity and confusion / puzzlement, tempered with the desire to know whether Tessa's likely to be an asset to her career or a potential rival-in-waiting. After all, she's breezed in from nowhere, bought the former amusement park, is restoring it, hiring straight from schools, and to top it all is now undertaking secretive charity works in town.
