Shouldn't eavesdrop
Cathy is lucky, if she'd gotten a couple of broken ribs in the assault, she'd have been back in the critical ward after that fall. ;-)

"Being a girl is wonderful and to torture someone into that would be like the exact opposite of what it's like. I don’t know how anyone could act that way." College Girl - poetheather
“When a clown moves into a palace, he doesn’t become a king. The palace becomes a circus.” - Turkish Proverb
That Cathy
Is lucky that she is going home. Anymore time in the ward and she might just laugh herself silly. Dr. Kelly a cyclist huh? Well, at least it'll be a cycling family if he joins along with Tom.

A Beautiful Piece of Ambiguity
My Mind was in Turmoil… not just boggling like Cathy's. A beautiful piece of ambiguity that led me, and no doubt, other officianados of Bike completely up the garden path. Falling out of bed from reading a joke in Cycling Weekly? Okay there are sometimes jokes in it and Dr Hutch is good value, but hardly in the falling-out-of-bed category. Obviously the nurse was not a cyclist or a reader of The Comic.
Alpha plus to Bonzi for entertainment, although I cannot quite fathom how he got the knowledge!
Hugs,
Gabi
Gabi.
Bonzi's reading material.
He takes the Guardian and Cycling Weekly to bed most nights, he likes to sleep on what he reads, and it makes a change from A Textbook of Astrophysics and Four Dimensional Chess for Cyclists - his day time fare.

You mean my friend ...
... Johnny Helms is no longer publishing his cartoons in Cycling Weekly? I stopped taking it years ago but John's cartoons were one of the highlights then and usually wryly funny. We even have a personalised original in pride of place on our mantel shelf.
John is a very witty man with hidden depths. A gentleman (in every sense of the word) and a cyclist of note ... but one goes with the other in my book :)
Bonzi should be a fan, as John's cartoons often illustrate the on going conflict twixt cyclist and dog which Bonzi should appreciate.

At this stage a top-up!
Angharad have "just" discovered Easy as Falling etc. It has ruined my life and is going to keep on doing so until I catch up with the next 2.5 thousand parts! I don't know how you did it nor how you have kept it up, but I have great hopes for the rest. I must force myself to take breaks for food, sleep, and social responsibilities. Thankyou so much! I think I love you (as an author).
Careful now -
you don't know where I've been. Should Bike be declared an addictive substance? One further thought, if it's taking you days or weeks to read, think how long it has taken to write, including specially designed typos!
Enjoy but read responsibly!
Best wishes,
Angharad

To be savoured not abused
The galloping first read through of EAFOAB is like a teenager’s first experience of alcohol, which can lead to a breakdown of civilised social life. As a survivor of that experience I now delve into the cellar of the Bike archive like a wine connoisseur - occasionally I find a bottle of vinegar but far more often a matured gem is unearthed to be appreciated slowly.
Thank you Angharad

Priceless !
That was the funniest dialog yet. Can't you see Cathy trying to hide behind her bike racing magazine ? That line about the husband not being to get his leg over had me snorting too !
If the story had ended, we would never have read this.

I was laughing quite hard
While reading the conversation between the two women that Cathy overheard. Cathy's assuming they were talking about sex just about caused me to choke, I'm not surprised she ended up falling off the bed!
Good to hear that she was able to go home, staying in a hospital for anything more than a few hours makes me feel like I'm going stir crazy.
