HOTAS on a bike?
"he’d never used flight deck ones before"
From Specialized website
Dolce triple -
FRONT DERAILLEURShimano 2300
REAR DERAILLEURShimano 2300
SHIFT LEVERSShimano 2300 STI, flight deck compatible
CASSETTEShimano HG-50, 8-speed, 13-26t
Oops - flight deck is a make of cycle computer, which most shimano gears will work with, I left out the word compatible.

Well I didn't know what it was either and I'm a few years older than Trish.

Will Cathy visit her pet dormouse, Spike?
May Your Light Forever Shine
May Your Light Forever Shine
You'd think ...
... someone as classy as Cathy would insist on Campagnolo, wouldn't you? Contary to what many people here think, Cathy has a very weak spot :)
I noticed a couple of youngsters climbing up some wire inside the cage and Mima let go one of her ear shattering laughs. I didn’t realise dormice could move so fast.
My imagination ran riot after reading this then I realised the youngsters were, in fact, young dormice - pity. But I did like Wiggley Braddings; an old lady I know quite well lusts after his bum.

Great episode
Wow!
Bicycling, dormice, wedding blessing planning (hers), wedding reception planning (Gloria's), comedy (Wiggley Braddings) and discussion of professional cyclists. What more could you want?
Although I can't help but think the unwritten next line would be:
"What's a velodrome?"
As for the gears, a quick Google reveals "Shimano Flight Deck Shifter", a guide to using them. There are numerous images available, but they're out of context (i.e. not showing them in-situ). Apparently Shimano also produce a cycle computer under the flight deck name, just to make things a little confusing...

You'll be there forever!
By the time you've explained all the different styles and types of bike competitions to the kids we'll have lost about 10 ephisodes of Bike.
Please, jus' keep on writing.
Still lovin' it.
Love ~& hugs.

Mummy what's a Velodrome?
I can imagine the questions now, who opened this can of worms?
I also didn't know a combined brake gear/change was called a "Flight deck" either. though I have used them, but I prefer a twist grip gear change
keep up the good work

Bikes and Dormice
This was a good episode that managed to encompass two of the major themes from this series.
Thanks A+B: really enjoyable.
Positively Satisfied
Bike Resources
Hmmm?
Didn't Cathy read the Drew/Gaby books to the kids in earlier episodes? Or am I wrong? If she did, Drew/Gaby is all about bike racing and has velodrome experience as well, so she should be able to direct them to that series again.
Nice episode, nice kid interaction. Hope Puddin' just has a checkup rather than feeling poorly. Such a thing might bring a blue light special?

All the different bikes
All the different bikes available in England back when I was a child facinated me and my siblings. We went over there with our Schwinn's; balloon tires and all. Single gear, back pedal brake system; intergrated headlights w/horn, plus the large saddle. The English kids were amazed with our bikes, while we were amazed with theirs. Three speeds was the big deal in the mid 50's and ANY bike that had more than three was really something special and generally were only found on racers. I can recall the first 15 or 18 geared bike I ever saw, when a Sgt in my Father's unit bought it somewhere on the European continent and brought back to our base in Englan. I am always totally interested in the various bikes and the information about them that Angharad, Gabby and others offer to us in their stories. Jan
Interesting Chapter
I only recently started reading this story. I read this ch. out
of curiosity. My actual position in this story is ch. 27.
Thank you for this ch. and story.

Now that
Cathy has got her children interested in all things bike, I wonder if any of them will go on to become the next Victoria Pendleton..... While Danny could maybe be the next Bradley Wiggins or maybe the king of sprint himself...
One thing though is for certain, Cathy will be more than happy at her children sharing her love of Cycling....Far better that than spending your life in front of a television....
Kirri:
Paget Cycles (Est 1976)
Is the reference to Paget Cycles' inception date, paying a small homage to Terry Pratchett's 'Arnold Bros (Est 1905)' that appears in his series The Bromeliad?
No, it's original
I haven't read any Terry Pratchet, but it was how Cathy described the shop in one of the early episodes (25 according to Ben's excellent Summary).
'We drew up outside Paget's Cycles, sounded like something you got from an oscilloscope. 'Established 1976' it said above the door, in my calendar that made it pretty ancient but I suppose it meant it was a stable sort of business, somewhere safe to leave my favourite possession.'

Wants to teach the kids bikes, and I'm guessing there is some history there too.
When I was 5 I desperately wanted a bike. I got one, but it was way too big, it took me 4 years to grow into it. My Mom got good use out of it meanwhile.
It was Christmas morning, I woke the house with the sound of me and my bike crashing into the Christmas tree, falling side wise. It was the beginning of a painful yet beautiful relationship.
Mommy, what's a Velodrome ?
Well, it looks like a Roller Derby rink, except. Mommy, what is Roller Derby? Why would someone want to chase?
It's like watching a NASCAR race, except they only go by once. Mommy, what's NASCAR?
YEP !
