String of Pearls - Part 1 - Wishing On Trick Candles Takes Extra Effort

SoP-Banner.gif

A birthday wish gives Siobhan Llewellyn far more than she knew in Miao Ling Grace. Grace and Shiv have adjustments galore to go through, including culture shock, language barriers and coming to terms with being open about their relationship.

Though my first installment is easily acceptable to general audiences, later installments will have sections meant for adults only. That is to say:
At times, this story is not safe for work and truly not acceptable reading for those under 18.

Please enjoy my first installment of String of Pearls.

"Nobody's allowed to see him, and Mrs. Tanner isn't talking. She said that you deserved to hear it from her first." At seeing my reaction she gave me a touch more information. "I do know that he's in the CCU."

"The what?"

"Critical Care Unit."

She eyed me for a second and then reached into her robe pocket to produce something. Unfurling her fingers I saw what it was and sucked in a sharp breath.

He chuckled lightly for me, and the smile he had set his eyes sparkling. "Just be yourself and they'll love you as much as I…"

You couldn't have stunned me any better if you were holding a taser.

When I tell this story I usually blank out, relating it to whomever is listening.
It keeps me from being emotional.

From what I've been told, it's unnerving as hell to watch.

Candice looked at the sheet of paper and turned a sort of puce colour. While she was looking, I wondered if justifiable homicide would be the correct plea if I sloshed her around the head with my handbag and broke it...

I almost wrecked the car. The windows vibrated. Dogs and cats within a three block radius were probably saying to themselves,

'What the hell?'

I know my eardrums will never be the same again.

I had hopes of things being fairly quiet over the next week. I really needed to recharge my batteries after everything that had gone on over the previous ones!

A French Twist

Mom went back for her own plate and we started in. Before long, she sat down, smiling at us mischievously.

“I have great news!”

“What’s that, Mom?” Carly playfully challenged her through a mouthful of garlic bread.

“We’re going to Paris for the last two weeks of July!”

Mom clapped her hands together and beamed across the table. Carly and I went silent. I stared at Mom as I digested the news, my fork frozen on its way to my mouth.

“Well, don’t all cheer at once!” She gibed, as her furrowing brow betrayed a taint of hurt.
