After a week spent in the ass-crack of nowhere tracking a hellbeast through a bug-infested swamp, Shadow couldn't wait to get back to civilization so he could have a meal he hadn't cooked, sleep in a proper bed, and have a bath that didn't leave him smelling like a bog. Shadow and his compatriots had spent all of yesterday tromping through the muck to get back to the only paved road that traversed the swamp, and most of today riding out of it.

Chapter 3: Living My Truth

The suggestion floated through the room like a playful breeze, a whisper of mischief carried on clouds of pillows and bursts of laughter. “Let’s venture to the garden,” someone declared, stretching languidly like a contented cat basking in the afternoon sun. “The lake is simply enchanting at this hour.”

The next morning, Tano woke up with a sense of anticipation instead of dread. The ache in his penis was pleasant rather than painful, and quickly turned to pleasure when he started touching himself. He woke up in the Duke's palace in a large feather bed, feeling only moderately like death, which was admittedly an improvement. When Tano groaned and forced his eyes open, he saw Doctor Banu - a gnome who had served as the Duke's personal physician for many years - sitting by the side of his bed.

"Ah! You're awake!" Banu exclaimed, his weathered, brown face crinkling into a smile that made him look like a dried apple.

Whenever Greg had a day like the one he had had today, he liked to pick up a new video game. Old, new, any genre, any console (for he owned them all) - none of that mattered. Just that he had some new story, some new world, to immerse himself in, to enable him to substitute this disappointing reality for a new iteration, where the goals were clear and defined, and all effort was duly rewarded.
