Paula and I were quickly separated again. I was taken into an outbuilding behind the palace. I have no idea where they took Paula or if I would ever see her again.

The heroine Mantra (Malibu Comics) suddenly finds that she's lost almost a week of time and has appeared in a place hundreds of miles from where she belongs. But if only things were so simple. In fact, the situation is much stranger than that, and potentially very dangerous.

Kari walked toward Marc, but he backed away. "So you think I'm Amos?"

"Mori"

"Jeez if my family wasn't in tremendous debt I don't know if I could do this, even with the Rei's" Leon said.

Cheer practice! Oh, and some other stuff that isn't quite as much fun.

I might have a new ally in my quest to bluff my way through Charlene's life. If I can keep her from ripping my head off, that is.

Is there anything worse than leaping back into my female doppleganger's body while she's having sex with a guy I hate? Maybe ... the aftermath?

It took me longer to recover my wits than I would have preferred. I wasn’t sure which was the more distressing. The fact that Charlene was cheating on Jackson with her friend’s boyfriend. Or the fact that said boyfriend was none other than Danny Morris, the asshole bully from high school.

“What?” I spat, wiping my mouth with the back of my hand to get the taste of Danny out of it. “What the hell?”

“Is that cherry I taste?” he asked playfully, seemingly oblivious to the rage coursing through me. “My favorite.”

My first real day pretending to be Charlene. How hard could it be?

Chapter 2.1

I had only been back to my position for a day when we found Carla in our observation room. I wasn't sure how she got there, but I was assuming that in the memories with Amos, he was able to tap into my knowledge of the ship. It seemed like a reasonable solution to that question.

Swapping the magazines on both Punishers turned out to be easier than I’d expected.

The armatures held the rifles under my arms, allowing me to eject the spent magazines and then replace them with fully loaded ones without the need to hold the Punishers in my hands. Then the armatures retracted against my back, tucking the linear rifles snuggly against my shoulder blades.

If I'm going to pull off being the girl I'm not, I'm going to need some assistance.

Thankfully for my fragile sanity, Jackson didn’t do something awkward like put his arm around me to try to comfort me while I slowly pieced my mind back to a more cohesive state. Even though, I could tell he was in a fight-to-the-death battle to do just that.

When my best friend, the mad inventor, wanted me to see his latest creation, I should have known something would go wrong.

I opened my eyes and looked around. Carla was not in sight.

I contacted John, and when he came in, I told him what had happened.

"Let me get this straight, Rose. You voluntarily scanned the memories of Amos Goodwin? What is wrong with you?"

Escape is finally at hand. But is the Order of the Dawn the only threat to my well-being?

I thought being an adult man trapped in the body of a teenage girl was the worst that could happen. Turns out, I was so horribly wrong.

Chapter 2

Amos glared at me. He tried to retake control of the situation, but I was very determined. Carla was helping as well, and between us, we were able to keep control.

"If you feel the way about me that you claim, why don't you look at my memories?"

He stared at me for a moment. "Do they have Carlson in them?" He asked.

"Of course," I answered.

"Then I'm not interested," He told me.

Fleeing from our pursuers, the guy wearing my face and I find a safe spot to hunker down and catch our breath. Which affords me time to take stock of the teenage schoolgirl I've become.
