I’m the dad in the story as of part 3. I know my name is not said till part 5 but that’s how I planned it. And my name is Mario Davis Senior in the story. I’ll get to the kids in a bit but let me tell you how they ended up with me. Their dad left a note in a file that only two other people knew about. One was his lawyer. And the other was well me. In a weird way we were like brothers. The day he died was hard because I got a letter in the mail form him. I can’t say what it said but it wasn’t good.

Hey I’m Mario Davis Junior. Daddy little man.
I had to kick a little ass when Jamie was picked on and had to help Amber out too. Those boys never saw me coming. Dad said I did real good job when they tried to kick me out of school. And to be honest I’d do it again and again. If I’m going to be a big brother soon and I’m happy. And I don’t care if it’s a girl or boy. And even if it’s a boy like Jamie is I’d be happy anyway.

Fine.

What do you mean ‘Fine’? Do you mean it looks good or not?

Fine .

Grr Fine what sort of a response is that?

Fine.

You don’t like it do you?

It’s fine so do what you have to do. Just don’t involve me.

What’s wrong with you tonight?

Nothing.

I tried to elicit clues that would help me figure out what he was thinking and feeling about me, without leading him on in a way that would mess up what I had — or might have — with Rob. It didn’t work; by the end of the meal I had no more idea than before what Vic felt about me, and had only succeeding in confusing myself about my own feelings.

It took some effort but I did finally get my intent into Manda's bonce.

“Why didn't you just say?”

“Where've you guys been?” Sal queried when we found them a few minutes later.

“I needed to pick up some supplies.” Mand supplied showing them the box in her basket.

Mildred getting in trouble for using her trick was serious business and I knew I wasn’t supposed to encourage her, but I couldn’t help laughing.
