The next morning was remarkably normal, Mother up early to bring us a cup of tea in bed, clearly checking my whereabouts. Pete had slept straight through, without nightmares, and I woke as before with an arm across me and dribble down the back of my neck.

I settled into my new life after a while, and with the settlement from the police abuse I was able to afford the deposit on a two-bed flat in Crabble.

In this chapter Beverly reluctantly returns to earth because mankind cannot make sense of the Anti-gravity science. She starts to realise that there may be hope for her returning as she learns that tolerance has moved a long, long way since her traumatic childhood. She also meets her only remaining older sister.

I had a big grin on my face but, now, Carol looked just as shocked as the doctor. She shook her head.

“That can’t be!”

I glared at her.

“And why not?”

“Boys are not born here!”

Winter mornings could be fun, and pretty, but the A2 was often a nightmare. The Kwak was buzzing away as I finally got past the Whitfield roundabout and I could let it have its head. It’s a long, long straight past Lydden, and just as I was topping the ton I picked up the change in the lights at Husk. Bugger.

CHAPTER 1

So, here I am in the hospital again with Mary. This time, though, I am awaiting word on the birth of our child. Boy, I never believed I would say that. It has been a crazy eight months since I received word of Mary’s pregnancy. I thought back to that fateful day.

Ruby is returned to earth to 'face the music' while Beverly departs for space again with possible suicidal tendancies.

After stepping onto the aircraft carrier deck, I turned angrily upon the crowd of gaping crewmen and snapped out an order.

“What are you all bloody gawking at? - And leave that container alone.”

The only sound was the stuttering wind stumbling around the flight deck as the ship

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I brooded weak and weary
Some demonic cloud the likes of which I’d never seen before
All at once took shape before me, making all my soul implore me
“Flee this evil dark and stormy, quit the room, go out the door!”
Yet it moved so that I could not leave the room, or reach the door
I could but stare and nothing more

I woke up disoriented. Somebody was snoring gently, and the back of my neck felt damp. There was an arm draped across me, and I needed to pee.
