I should have expected it. We dropped everything off, went straight back to college, and by the time I had ridden home my mother had put everything away.

CHAPTER 4
It was a typical evening at my mother’s. She had the Glass Tit on as I read, watching some “Britain’s Got X-Rated Dancing Talent” or something, a style of programme I find profoundly irritating.

CHAPTER 3
I left my mother’s house the next morning for the University, wearing my Dennis the Menace (the real and original UK one) cycle shirt, the one I am told gives me a dangerous, devil-may-care, appearance.

CHAPTER 2
Why is it impossible to talk to my mother? I have read all of the literature, all of the academic papers I can find on ideational and interpersonal function, and how to use it. I have looked up the non-verbal aspects, I have even practised them, but it makes no difference. She talks, I sit quietly.

CHAPTER 1
I don’t drive. I have a licence, but I have never felt the need to own a car. This has brought all sorts of odd questions into my life, from friends, relatives, employers, passing drivers keen to share their wisdom and advice as to the desirability of my using the cycle path.

Ira was just like you and me until the impossible occurred, twisting him and all he loved. Now there is only survival, but if he ever gets the chance ... Revenge!

CHAPTER 10
It was a bit like that at work. Senior management were caught in a cleft stick, as the law prohibited any discrimination against me, but I tried to minimise the changes, just wearing my hair in a different way, a bra of course, and doing my best to stay out of both sets of public toilets.

In this chapter, Ruby the reporter and narrator of the remainder of the story appears. She meets Beverly at Beverly's instigation and learns much.

This story was originally written over thirty years ago when I was still trying to come to terms with my childhood abuse and my transgendered transvestism... I've altered a few bits very slightlt but it's essentially the same as when I first wrote it and I seem now to hold it as a sort of link to my past and a datum mark to show myself how far I've come.

The Bridgeview Galleria didn’t exist back when I was living here in high school it’s a kind of nice place with three floors and lots of brand name and box stores. I get a Orange Julius and wander around the mall. I’m not in a hurry so I’m just enjoying myself, looking and window shopping while I have a few hours.
