“Okay, then,” I say to myself, before taking a deep breath and walking through the front door of the large, imposing building. For the first time in two years, I’m entering a place of education that’s based in London- only unlike that last time, I’m doing so on my own terms.

This is a Trust Machines story. If you're not familiar with them, you aren't likely to understand this one. It is a short-short, so there is no development of the background.

Nobody would likely note the three high school boys that were walking down the sidewalk. The boy on the left was rather large, well over six feet and quite stocky. He was walking with a cocky swagger, and had a cruel smile on his face.

“There are no stories that old, Father!”

“Indeed not many, Naomi, but there are some. Most are not told often, for many are incomplete, some just fragments, and often they disagree with each other. One of the most popular girls’ names for centuries has been Scowla, so would you like to hear of Our Lady of Niok and how Saint Scowla was visited by her with the passion in front of thousands and viewed by millions?”

It was just a Walmart, not a Belk or something, and I was probably just getting basic underwear, not anything I could show off at school like a skirt or dress. But it was my first time shopping for girl clothes and I was determined to enjoy it. I’d read a million scenes like this in various stories since I first got past the nanny software a couple of years ago, and now I was going to live it.

Marcy’s mum met with his headmistress to discover the dress code is not gender specific. If Marcy wishes to wear a skirt to school the head said it’s within the code and she deliberately wrote the code that way. She expressed approval of Marcy’s ‘light touch’ with make up and jewellery.

To catch up:

Laura (the “knockout”) visited the girls at home and brought, among other things, information regarding the quality of the teachers at their school. The information included good points and bad points, teaching ability, testing issues, etc.

Laura had been gone only about five minutes when the doorbell rang again. I opened the door saying, “Laura, did you forget something ...?”

Sorry this has been a long time coming (Since Jan 2018) But that's how my muse takes me. I've also got to pick up the pieces with 'Heir to a title' and 'The rescue' before real life takes over.)

Anyway, at the moment, what's left of my muse has kicked this one onto centre stage.

The idea of having a job and working with more girls who would ignore me and more boys who would hit me terrified me. I was depressed and thinking about ending it all because the idea of possibly another sixty years like the last twenty was too much.

8 My Favorite Mistake

Marcy has started to dress as a girl in public, but was worried her interest in fishing would affect her gender consultant’s belief she is a girl. However, her consultant proved supportive and to Marcy’s surprise said she is interested in steam trains, and she and her husband went on a steam train enthusiasts course on their honeymoon.

Where necessary or possibly helpful to some, there are notes at the end on word usage.

She went to her room and came back with one of her sports bras, and I tried it on. It was definitely a lot tighter than the one I’d borrowed from the lost and found, but I thought I could live with it for an hour at a time until I got something that fit me.

chapter 1

Richard was startled by his sister Rose storming into the house in rage. She stamped up the steps and flew into er bedroom. He stood outside snickering at he heard his sister scream in rage. A few things were threw into the wall. She sounded seriously pissed about something.

The doctor said I had ambi-something genitals. I found out later it meant, not fully girl or fully boy. Later still I found out it just meant uncertain, which I think was just a fancy way of saying they didn’t know what they were talking about.

My brother David said, “There is no way Caro is a boy. No boy would be seen dead in her clothes.”
My sister Alice added, “There’re more than a few girls, including me, who wouldn’t either.”

AUTHOR NOTES:

On September 19, 2016 (International Talk Like A Pirate Day) I was watching the local evening news when they broadcast a story about Krispy Kreme Donuts offering a free doughnut if you came in and talked like a pirate. I found the story so appealing, that it inspired me to write my second BCTS serial and post the chapters as part of the then current BCTS writing challenge.
