Chapter Twenty Five
Meet Jack McCoy
“Honey, I’m home!”, came a familiar song as the front door opened to reveal Darrin with a guest in tow.
Samantha was up in a flash to greet her husband with a peck and the guest with a smile.
Darrin quickly made the introductions, “Mr. McCoy, this is my wife Samantha. Samantha …this is Jack Mc Coy. He’s one of the partners in the law firm we're representing…or hope we can represent.”
Samantha extended her hand. “It’s a wepleasure to meet you Mr McCoy.”
The tall older gentleman with salt and pepper hair, took her hand and grasped it gently, “Please call me Jack and please excuse this unannounced intrusion. I sort of bullied your husband here for a lunch invitation under the guise of saying I was tired of eating in restaurants and hotels, but truth be told, when he told me about you and your daughter, I really wanted to meet you both. I’m big on family and that's important to me when I decide who I want to do business with.”
Jack noticed the young woman seated on the couch. “Oh, I'm sorry I didn't realize you had company. If I've come at a bad time we can go somewhere else and grab a bite.”
Samantha quickly locked her arm in his and led him to the living room. “You certainly will not and you've come at the perfect time.”
Samantha introduced Jack and Jenna and then told Darrin if he’d like to take Jack into his study she would bring them a drink and some lunch. Jenna of course offered to lend a hand as they headed toward the kitchen
Darrin was showing Jack the way to the den when their guest stopped and looked around. “I was hoping to meet little Tabitha if she was here. I love kids and my daughter lives out of state and I hardly ever get to see my grandkids.”
Samantha looked toward the patio doors, “Well, I think Tabitha and the girls went outside to play.”
On cue, the pig tail posse came running in and then stopped in their tracks when they saw the two men. Tabitha ran up to Darrin and offered him open arms. He gathered her up in a hug and was rewarded with a kiss. “Hi Daddy!”
He smiled and made introductions. “Tabitha, this Mr McCoy”.
The older man’s blue eyes twinkled,“You can call me Jack if you want or ..you can call me Grandpa Jack if you really want”.
He then turned his attention to her two co conspirators which were flanking Jenna. “And who might these two beautiful young ladies be?”
Tabitha smiled innocently, “That’s Becky and Cathleen. They were sad and too big but I fixed them and now they’re little and happy and that’s their mommy cause she don't got to be an aunt no more.”
Jack stood there, mouth open and dumbfounded for a moment before suddenly laughing. “That’s one of the things I love about kids. They have a language all their own.”
Samantha and Jenna breathed a sign of relief as Darrin gave her a puzzled look. His wife returned her patented, I’ll explain later look, before shooing the kids out to play.
Jack watched the kids leave before Darrin took him to the den. Once the two disappeared, Jenna looked at Samantha, “Is it always like this around here?”
Samantha paused in thought for a moment, “Well…no not really. Today is a slow day.” She added with a wink and a laugh that brought one from Jenna as they disappeared into the kitchen.
Twenty minutes later the ladies had served lunch to Darrin and Jack, and prepared peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for three hungry princesses in the dining room
Finally off duty, Jenna and Samantha relaxed on the sofa. Jenna was about to call Rick and check in with him when the moment was interrupted by a knock at the front door.
