The Curse of Rebecca Anne Stewart or… There’s No Such Thing As Witches

Chapter Twenty Eight
The Star Witness

All eyes turned left to see Mr. McCoy with Darrin at his side.

”Please forgive me for intruding in a private matter, but I couldn't help but overhear and I think I might be of some assistance here, if you will allow me. “.

He crossed the room and stopped in front of Mrs.Kravitz and offered his hand. “I don't think we've been introduced. My name is Jack McCoy. I’m a lawyer, well mostly corporate law, but in my younger days I worked for the prosecutors office so I know a little something about criminal law here and I think we have a real case.”

Mrs. Kravitz’s eyes lit up as shook his hand with enthusiasm. She then directed a smirk toward Samantha and Jenna before turning back to Mr Mc Coy. “You really think we do?”

“Oh absolutely”, he winked discreetly at Samantha and Jenna.

Suddenly,he began pacing the room like a trial attorney. “Now let's review the facts shall we?”. He paused for effect and then laid his foundation “Mrs. Kravitz observed the subjects entering this residence. Is that true Mrs Kravitz?”

“Oh yes, I saw them alright.”, she was quick to testify and quick to add, "I'm always watching from my window. I don't miss a thing.”

The attorney nodded and continued pacing. “Must be hard though to see what's going on from all the way across the street?”

“Not for me! I've got binoculars. I can see right in their windows.”

“I see, but in this incident you didn't need binoculars did you? You walked right across the street, into their yard, along the side of their house and peeked through a hole in their fence to watch their five year old daughter playing in their backyard. Would that be an accurate summation of your activities?”

Mrs Kravitz nodded. “Yes sir, that's exactly how it happened.”

“And I’m sure that's not the first time you've witnessed such strange going ons?”

“Oh no”, Mrs Kravitz boasted. “I've seen loads of others. Why, I was looking in the kitchen window one time when I saw her mother suddenly…”

“Thank you Mrs Kravitz”, Mr. McCoy cut her off. “You've been very helpful “

“Do you think we have a case?” Mrs Kravitz asked hopefully.

Jack gave her his best shark smile. “I’m sure we do and I’m willing to take it on pro bono just for the joy of prosecuting people like this.”

Jack stopped and made direct eye contact with Mrs Kravitz. His voice lowered to just above a whisper, “And… I think we both know the kind of people I’m talking about don't we Gladys? I may call you Gladys mayn’t I?”

The Star witness nodded and blushed before smiling triumphantly at Jenna and Samantha

Jack then stepped back and finished his summation. “Well… seems to me that in light of this mountain of damaging evidence, there is only one question left and that would be if Mrs Stephens and Mrs Hitch would like to prefer charges against you …Gladys.”

Saying Mrs. Kravitz was knocked for six would be an understatement. Her eyes went wide in disbelief of what her ears heard. Her mouth opened to protest, but she could only manage a feeble stutter, “A…a…against mmm…mmm…me?
