Chapter Thirty-two: Christmas and New Year's

When 15 year old Byron and his family go to visit Aunt Dora during spring break, they soon find themselves under an unexpected attack. In the aftermath, Byron's body and life change in ways that he never could have expected, or imagined.

Day 1 The Annual Ski Trip Begins
When their family was getting ready for their annual ski trip Chris’s mom had bought him a new pair of long underwear. When he tried them on he couldn’t help but notice how they clung to his legs. “Mom they make me look like I have chicken legs!” Chris had always had a small frame and had been teased for it in the past.
“It’s not as if anyone’s going to see your legs Chris. You’ll be wearing your ski pants. They’re just long johns.”
“But what about in the chalet?”

I'm leading Collin down the steps of our secret basement. It is the day. He seems calm – if not confident. As we stand outside of the door, I tell him. “I am required to ask you if you are willing to walk through this door. You will not be hurt by anything you see. But if you feel you don't want to do this, you will be okay. We will honor our five year deal with you.” Collin says, “I want to do this. I am ready.” I open the door for him, and then sit and wait.

“Please don’t be mad at him. He’s embarrassed about changing into a girl and is afraid of how people will react. If you freak out, it will make him feel justified in keeping my existence secret, and I’m just as real as he is. Both of us remember being the original Jamie, but both of us have changed.”

Mark Patterson has had a terrible time with nightmares all his life. On his thirtieth birthday he received a cold case that alters his life forever.

Chapter 3

I was really glad that Melody was there at that moment. She recovered from the shock before I did, and swept me up into a hug to prevent me from totally freaking out.

Eventually, I stopped shaking, and she said, “You ... need some clothes.”

Oh yeah. I was naked.

A half-hour later, I was dressed in pants and a t-shirt borrowed from Melody, and eating some soup while waiting for my mom to get back.

Chapter 2

When I woke up the next morning, I could feel the first effects of all the magic in my system. I was overflowing with energy, and had real trouble staying still. Since it was spring break and I didn’t have school, I went over to a nearby park and ran around, doing gymnastics I had never tried before, but no matter how hard I pushed myself, I couldn’t seem to feel any less energetic.

“He said you’ve changed your name to Artemis? Why? Jamie works fine for a girl as well as a boy.”

 

Better for a girl than a boy, I thought, remembering some of the teasing I’d had to put up with. No sense bringing that up now, though.

An excoriating treatise on the problems that rot the very core of monarchy and its relationship with the common man. Or it's a story about princesses, dresses, and the kind of the things that the Mercynaries should probably put a stop to.

Chapter Thirty-one: The Yule Ball

This chapter hopefully explains what happened last chapter. There's a fair amount of tension between the school and Atalanta with Manny siding with Atalanta and leaving Sam walking a fine line.

As always I want to thank Ashleigh for her editing skills. It would be mostly unreadable without her as grammar is not my strength.

I do hope you enjoy this chapter and I will appreciate your comments and answer any questions you have and of course kudos.

This was an absolutely fun chapter to write and read; this chapter is all about action and I do hope you'll find it enjoyable. Atalanta cuts loose a bit and consequences be damned.

I also want to thank Ashleigh again for her editing prowess as editors are the backbone of a story and I know she hasn't been feeling well.

This chapter is not too long but I feel it should be looked at separate from the next chapter but I'll try and post it in the next couple of days because they fit together.

Guys sorry about the spotty posting but my husband went into rehab on April 15th and I've been super busy. I'm not sure about my schedule going forward as on Friday I learned his Ins. Co won't talk to without his permission--every time. So I need to look into a legal/financial framework for us. That'll be fun--not. I have most of this story written; it is in two sections and I'm working on connecting them and adding finishing touches to the ending.

First I want to thank Ashleigh for her editing skills and making it readable. I've included 4 chapters as they're kind of short. Dr. Bellows wants Atalanta to do what? Mischief happens in the bathroom. Nikki has a theory about Atalanta's use or abuse of magic.

Vincent was working late on night, filling paperwork out. His coworker came in his office and sat down. Renee was attractive and flirtatious and she knew she was good looking, which in Vincent's opinion was why she was such trouble. He consciously didn't want to give her too much attention and kept his head down while she was there, trying not to be rude though.

Jasmine continues her transformation with her sister Ginny's guidance. A date with Jeff makes her dreams come true, but all fairy tales come to an end. Will there be a happily ever after for the princess when her parents return?

Feminist writer, Joey, decides to give the Dollar Shave Club a try but gets a nasty shock when it promotes unseemly hair growth and masculine changes to her body. In the end, she must choose to either embrace the change or fight the company that has cursed her.

I'm working on the next Masks story, but it's slow going. In the meantime here is something to hold you over.

This is from an uncompleted fantasy novel. The premise is that some mysterious event has mixed patches from different alternate Earths together on one. Not only are there now humans and non-humans trying to live together, but some people who were caught at the boundary of a patch during the change were themselves altered.
