Sometimes life can be cruel and then there seems no hope. Sometimes life isn’t fair and we feel we need a break. Sometimes life brings hurt and sadness. Sometimes it brings joy. Sometimes we are buried by grief and then an extraordinary act of kindness is needed to bring it back on track. Kindness is often reciprocated and most acts of kindness cost nothing and we get a return that we never expect. Often tragedy can happen by being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Sometimes we are in the right place at exactly the right time. Sometimes we feel lost and sometimes we are found. This is a Christmas story of kindness.

This is a fanfiction of a mix of Whateley and The Center by Lillith Langtree. Mostly in The Center Universe. This is a fanfiction so I will break some of the rules as the Whateley Universe has different rules concerning mutants.

My dreams are always surreal, but very rarely involve sex of any kind. So, when the image that inspired this story cropped up for a few seconds one night, it stood out in later recollection. I decided that it just might be worth fleshing out... so to speak.

“Is this light?”

“Yes… This is light.”

Brian Donovan glanced at the array of telemetry that offered a vast variety of colorfully lit dials and information. The machine sat quietly in its metal chair, arms and legs restrained. It glanced as far around the laboratory as its range of neck motion would allow.

“Am I dreaming?” The machine asked in its slightly higher pitched androgynous voice.

“No machine… You are not dreaming.” Doctor Donovan glanced at the machine and smiled. “You are in real time.”

Brandin Jessup is laid to rest as Dana and Sloan each try to deal with their own demons.

Thomas Dern reflects on Brandin's life. He also learns of events in Riyadh. Taylor tries to assimilate Danielle's mannerisms for the upcoming role in Soft Kill.

The morning after. Dana and Sloan discuss the future with Matt and Danielle. Celia Cole ponders her own future. Fred and his team run into a few problems.
