Thirteen year-old Taylor Landt’s step-mother believes that he should be the next great football player for the high school he’ll be attending in the fall. Having a dad who is an accomplished professional linebacker, and growing up surrounded by professional football coaches and players should all but guarantee his ability to dominate on the field. Unfortunately he hates playing football, and knows his height and build will never allow him to be successful at the sport. Faced with an obsessive step-mother who ignores his obvious talents in other areas but instead thinks he is a blight on his father’s reputation, Taylor does the unthinkable and moves to Ohio to live with his mother who abandoned their family and left him with his father eight years ago.

Soon after his arrival, Taylor discovers there’s more to his inability to follow in his fathers’ footsteps than just his height. I get dressed and let Mike in with the computer and his recordings of stuff. It’s mostly audio except for the stuff in public areas and there’s some scenes where we catch Justin and Lucas bullying some of the kids that would kind of fit into the less than up to their social standards.

They’re not hitting but both of them are big guys and hooked up with Adam…well not just hooked up. Justin’s Adams closest “Friend” and Lucas is almost as sycophantic.

“That’s Justin and the other one’s Lucas, or as I used to call them Adams right and left testicles.”

“Thanks Adam.”

“I didn’t mean to upset you.”

“I know, just seeing Dad’s picture took me from just having him in my head sort of fuzzy to remembering.”

She flailed wildly for a few minutes before she realized she was still in her bedroom and then did a wild scramble for the bedside garbage can and started to “Hamlet.” into it.

To “Hamlet” was a local thing that came off of a teenaged drunk from someone a few grades higher that stuck in the school. Due to the “Yorrick” sound.

Sarge and Gunny had phoned their buddy over the weekend so he was primed and ready when we arrived. That battery of tests they told me about were administered to me but I wasn’t told the results, at least not right away. All I could get out of the three of them was, “you did good, kid.” Other than a physical we polished off all the paperwork including my enlistment options and the copy and filing of the four letters Gunny and Sarge had been holding for me. Their buddy didn’t say a word about them, he just smiled and gave Sarge a thumbs up.

Sunshine and love and me just really able to be myself and still loved by my father who’s holding me in my arms. Like I said I swear that I could feel my Mom’s presence with us in this whole moment.

Thirteen year-old Taylor Landt’s step-mother believes that he should be the next great football player for the high school he’ll be attending in the fall.
