Coming Out Posthumously: a grave admission

A foreboding premonition caused now deceased cross-dresser Joel to schedule and pre-pay for his 'Makeover of a Lifetime' many months prior to his demise.

His ‘Makeover’ included being laid to rest perfectly made-up, with nice hair, wearing his prettiest earrings, his nicest high heeled pumps, manicured and painted nails and dressed in his feminine finery with the delightfully feminine “Miss Dior by Maison Février Essence de Parfum” wafting from his satin lined casket.

Fado took a deep breath and peered toward me. I could tell she was a little annoyed. Finally though after a few tense moments she started to speak, and when she spoke it was a tone that reminded me of my mother. Indeed mother had used the same tone of voice when she wanted to explain something to me that often flew over my head.

Chapter 2

She sat on the swing with me and the dogs and dabbed her eyes with a tissue.

“That’s very sad. I’ve known Tom a long time, Albert as well, since Tom brought him here. I went to school with Tom and saw how he was bullied. There are a few other girls from that time who still live around the area. I have a key to this house, in case it was needed, which I’ll give you. He had a key to mine.”

“I was just given his keys. Is it on the ring?”

I handed it over and she took a key off it.

“What are you doing, now, Tony?”

Ethan gets a surprise. Well, more than one, actually...

Chapter 1

I was drying myself after a shower and thinking about today. It wasn’t one that I had expected, as today was the day that I’d say a final goodbye to my Uncle Tom. Well, I say Uncle, but he was more a cousin to me in reality. He had taught me a lot in the time I really knew him and was already missing him terribly. I really wasn’t looking forward to see his coffin carried away. I suppose that I should make things clearer by going back a few years, first.

Fish House Blue's

The inside of the kitchen reminded of a combat zone. Line cooks were shouting orders at the top of their lungs, waitresses were rushing back and forth from the  dining room area to the kitchen, shouting at the top of their lungs, tempers were running high. It was a circus within a circus. It was your average Friday night at “Delta Pride Catfish House” a modest and rustic little seafood and steak house restaurant my uncle Cliff owned and operated.

Benton Academy
Benton Academy was a private, mostly white, mostly protestant, Christian school that only allowed the sons and daughters of the bourgeoisie of Benton to become students. The academy had started off as a segregation academy. The academy had started when a group of Benton's leading businessmen decided that they would not send their children to the newly desegregated public schools. Among those businessmen had been my grandfather Sherman Potter.

My Will

I took a deep breath as I peered toward the glowing television screen. I was back home now, mom had called me before I'd had a chance to venture into girlhood. Mom did not feel safe driving home in a blinding rain storm. So we cut our little trip into Jackson short. I was a little disappointed. But I guess I just had to wait patiently and deliberately for the right opportunity to act, rather than acting on impulse.

Boulevard of Broken Dreams

The mall was filled with shoppers this rainy afternoon. From where I was sitting, on a wooden bench under a planted palm tree that seemed odd out of place in Mississippi I noticed that every one of them held some kind of bag. Delightful smells drifted down from the food court. The smells caused my stomach to growl, reminding me that I'd skipped breakfast and the hamburger steak I had for supper last night had long since left me.
