Shakespeare's TAMING OF THE SHREW is one of the greatest of The Bard's plays, BUT in these days of female assertion and the 'Me Too' movement, this show about female subservience offers a lot of challenges. A long time actor in a semi-professional Shakespearean troupe finds himself unexpectedly cast in the part of Kate's younger, cuter, more flirtatious sister, Bianca, by a director who wants to challenge her actors and society.

"I am Selene," the woman said after briefly stepping away to retrieve a robe for me to cover up. "You may call me Madam Selene, or just Madam will suffice."
I nodded as I quickly draped the robe over my naked body. The soft material felt heavenly atop my bare skin, a stark contrast to the rough tunic that clung to my body the past few weeks.
"And you are?" I heard her ask. I hadn't yet had the opportunity to ponder my new circumstance, but that still would have to wait.
"Rowen, ma'am—" I paused, "Madam."

The women beside me could only hold my attention for a brief moment. I'd noted that, despite looking in better condition than the other captives, they still looked just as worn out emotionally. And out of the three of them, only one had presence enough to pay me any mind, but my attention was needed elsewhere.

I remember the day we first met. He'd walked through the doors of the orphanage half shrouded behind a tall woman I would never see again. It had been difficult to make out his face in the dimly lit hallway, but I could tell he was terrified of everything around him. Then again, who wouldn't be?
Unlike him, my first memories had been of this place. I imagine I would have been just as terrified of these rundown walls in his shoes. For me, this was home, and even back then at the tender age of 7, I knew they would be home for him too.

That representative mistakes Chris for a girl and makes the band an offer that no one could refuse. The girls in the band and a couple of their mothers get involved and Chris' life takes some interesting turns!

The rest of the way to the mall, Sadie observed Chris’s process for his latest task. After seeing how it amused the others, as well as how fun it was to get Amy’s cousin to stumble through explanations of why he was saving each particular picture, she kept up the questions and comments. Despite the inappropriate nature of what they were talking about, Sadie somehow managed to keep up her innocent demeanor. It was a confusing contrast to Amy’s smug attitude and Julia’s more dominant energy.

Chapter Six: Out in the Open
Their next meeting wasn’t at the studio. It was a small wine bar in the West Village with candles guttering in old glass bottles and a chalkboard menu that changed with the weather. Ava arrived first and texted a photo of the corner table; Aria stared at the image, at the two empty glasses catching candlelight, and felt the quiet throb of possibility.
This is my first attempt at writing a torte. Please provide feedback and comments - they make it worth writing such stories.
Chapter Three: Growing Out
The first weeks after his appointment with Ava felt like a secret season in Arjun’s life. He went to work as usual, logged into Zoom calls with his team, exchanged perfunctory greetings in the apartment lobby. Nothing looked different to anyone else. And yet—he felt different.
Chapter Two: The Appointment
The website looked discreet but warm: Ava & Co. Transformations—NYC’s Premier MTF Makeover Studio. Tasteful before-and-afters. Testimonials that sounded like whispered confessions. A calendar widget with a few weekday openings and a handful of Saturday slots that vanished as he hovered over them, like they were frightened of his indecision.
Arjun booked a Tuesday evening under the name “A. Patel.” It took him half an hour to press confirm and three seconds to pray he hadn’t made a terrible mistake.

Chapter Five: Unfolding
The week after the salon night stretched like a taut string. Aria returned to her daily rhythms—emails, project deadlines, cooking lentils in her tiny kitchen—but everything felt changed. When she brushed her teeth in the morning, she remembered the pressure of Ava’s finger on her lips. When she sat on a Zoom call, she caught herself touching the ends of her hair, twisting them the way she’d seen Melissa do.
And at night, when she looked at the photo gallery Ava had given her, she no longer saw “costume.” She saw herself, whole and luminous.

Taylor had his phone now, which was one of the few improvements from the previous day. He dug it out from where he had stashed it in his backpack before daycare, planning on texting Anna to see if she was at the house. Before he could do so, Sarah plucked the device from his hand. “Taylor, this is just to be used for emergencies,” she said, “Is this an emergency?” She tucked the phone between her thighs for safekeeping while driving, correctly assuming that Taylor wouldn’t reach down there to get it back.
