In the office, they were joined by Clive.

“Hello, Willow. This show in Coventry, have you any idea of the details?”

This is a sequel to Demon Queened, but I'll do my best to make sure you don't need to read the original to make sense of it. I still recommend the original - it was a good series, in my opinion! - but reading it shouldn't be a necessity.

The following week was a busy one. On Tuesday afternoon, the Junior Orchestra were set up at the back of the stage, with a rostrum between them and the piano and microphones for Willow and Vivienne. They worked through the full show, with Mister Jamieson conducting, and some other teachers watching.

No dreams, just the sleep of the emotionally drained. It lasted all the way through to six o’clock.

“Three little maids from school are we,” blared from my phone’s small but powerful speaker, “Pert as a school-girl well can be, Filled to the brim with girlish gleeeeee. Three little maids.... from school!”

“Oh God!” I groaned.

“One little maid is a bride, Yum-Yum,” sang Alice.

When we enter the cabin, I know for sure that our roommate is indeed the Makena from our school. Judging by the look she’s giving me, it seems her friends didn’t completely convince her about me after all.

No erotic dreams this time. Maybe down to the delay in taking my evening pills, maybe down to my body adapting to the changes, maybe down to the worries I was carrying. What I did dream about was juggling Fabergé Eggs while keeping balance on a unicycle on a tight wire over such a deep drop that all I could seems below me was cloud. On the plus side, I didn’t drop anything. On the minus, I woke up in a sweat without the benefit of the night’s rest.

Janet was a tea person and had a pot on the go when I emerged.

The men all nodded and made to leave. Hugh and Sam gave Ashley a man-hug, but the others just shook hands. The four walked the visitors back to their cars and waved as they left. Wendy gave a big sigh.

“I guess that when the election’s called, I’ll have to be the ‘supporting housewife’.”

Tori’s taken the day off of work again and I’m starting to feel bad about it. Then again, she kind of created this mess, didn’t she? I push the thoughts out of my mind as she chats on the phone with her mom. She’s made a pretty good point of staying in the room with me, occasionally reading, mostly on her laptop, but she’s spent a good amount of time talking to me. She wants to know everything. What my life was like as a kid, favorite color, favorite book, and so on. I’m hesitant to answer at first but she gets easier to talk to the longer I do it.

Chapter 10

They went downstairs, knocking on Ted’s door on the way. They were seated at their table by six, and Hugh gave Carlo his credit card for all the meal costs. They were talking about general things when Hazel asked Willow a question.

“How’s the campaign going, Willow?”

“Dad’s been to the office a few times and spoken to them. We spent a morning with the guys at the head office in Whitehall and surprised them when they were showing us around Parliament. Chris Leigh spoke to us and hosted us for lunch in the Lords Dining Room.”

On the way home, Willow got Sebastian to stop at a post office, where she bought a post pack big enough for three discs, and the stamps needed for a package of three and another of one. When she was home, she sealed the one to the ENO, and filled the package to Jill. Properly stamped, she left them on the hall table for her mother to put in a post box in the morning.
