Jerry and I had known one another since childhood. We went through high school together and worked together after I finished college. I went into finance, but Jerry felt that he was ready to set up his own business. You have to admire him for that.

She cracked a smile. “Off the record?” she asked.

Chapter 2

She sat on the swing with me and the dogs and dabbed her eyes with a tissue.

“That’s very sad. I’ve known Tom a long time, Albert as well, since Tom brought him here. I went to school with Tom and saw how he was bullied. There are a few other girls from that time who still live around the area. I have a key to this house, in case it was needed, which I’ll give you. He had a key to mine.”

“I was just given his keys. Is it on the ring?”

I handed it over and she took a key off it.

“What are you doing, now, Tony?”

Chapter 1

I was drying myself after a shower and thinking about today. It wasn’t one that I had expected, as today was the day that I’d say a final goodbye to my Uncle Tom. Well, I say Uncle, but he was more a cousin to me in reality. He had taught me a lot in the time I really knew him and was already missing him terribly. I really wasn’t looking forward to see his coffin carried away. I suppose that I should make things clearer by going back a few years, first.

This is the first of two stories (so far) in what will eventually become a multipart tale that details Minnie’s full weekend!

The first day, we didn’t actually go in ourselves. We just poked equipment through the portal on poles of various sorts, and took readings from it. We didn’t get a GPS signal or cellular phone signal except for what came through the portal from here. By closing the door I’d installed, and using a longer pole, we concluded there was no trace of those signals.

My grandfather was in sales. My father regarded it as a lowly occupation, and he often gave his father-in-law a hard time about it. He said that salespeople would say or do anything to close the deal. He said that it required no qualifications and attracted people with short attention spans. My father had qualifications – not great ones, but something to hang on his wall. My grandfather had sales awards, but he didn’t display them.

She snorted loudly. “There’s no such thing. That whole men are from Mars, Women are from Venus is just a tired boomer stereotype to sell books. Ask away,” she said.

The mirror has cracked, and the lines between friends have entirely dissolved. The first pieces of this adventure are coming to the fore. The only real question is what will you do?

Chapter 18

At the Saturday dinner with the charity, Willow and Marian gave them a list of the artists, along with the songs that they would perform. It was timed, based on the original tracks, with the ENO and Ginas’ parts estimated. All told, it would run for three hours.

Chapter 16

The next morning, it was a slow start for most of the residents of the apartments. It was Angie wanting her breakfast that roused Marian and Ken, with the added complication that they needed to shower and dress before going downstairs. They did find something in the kitchen to keep Angie satisfied.

When they got to the restaurant, they found Willow sitting alone.
