Chapter 21

*Sam……….

It’s really yet to hit me. I’m staring at the papers in my hand and I’m walking and the only reason I’m not walking into people or things is the fact I’m really familiar with the base. I’m carrying the folder they gave me and…reading it my box with medals under my arm it's why the commander wanted to see me. There's going to be a ceremony once I'm "back" but that was about it. But it's nothing compared to these, this, my papers and I’m still reading the letter over and over again.

It’s happening…it’s really happening!

CHAPTER 4
Back to work the next day, of course, and I was on the folder. I don’t like platform pedals, and riding in a suit was a pain in the arse, quite literally at times, but my boss had taken a firm line on appearing at a trader’s in lycra.

CHAPTER 3
I walked with them as far as the bike cages, Karen staying close by me. There was a little bit of eye language, and Terry disappeared into the toilets with James. I gave Karen as hard a stare as I could manage.

“You’ve told him, right?”

“He’s my husband. I know you have a problem with that, but if there is one person I will trust, it is the man I took my vows with. You have a problem?”

CHAPTER 2
She sat there stunned for just a few seconds, in hindsight, but as people bustled past us laden with trays and tripod-mounted telescopes it felt like a month.

CHAPTER 1
The weather had held fine for once, with just a hint of a drop of rain as I left home and none at all by the time I rode down past the speed humps to the Barnes reserve. The lockers were waiting, steel-mesh cages perfect for locking up the Galaxy complete with panniers, and as I changed shoes I felt almost happy.

Synopsis: Jessica had her first visit to see Dr. Beth Humphrey. It had been an emotional session, but that was only the beginning. Following her doctor’s advice, Jessica agreed to attend a support group for abused woman. To her complete surprise, she discovered that her mother was attending the same meeting. This had been the first time that Jessica had seen her since the suicide attempt. The meeting had turned out to be very emotional for both Jessica and her mother, Sarah. In the end, they both developed a new found understanding of what they had gone through. Still, only time would tell if Jessica and her birth mother would reconcile.

My son Jim, my youngest, came running at the sound. “Jim,” I told him, “get me the shotgun.” He scurried off into the house. He was just returning as the battered old Nissan pulled over at the side of the road, right in front of the house.

Chapter 4

I look at them there’s about fifteen of them and about nine of them are guys. I don’t really look at them. There’s two that look like the want to hurt me. No, it’s the six girls I’m watching. They’re the ones with the pissed beyond pissed look to their faces. It’s the same thing really in most places. Most of these guys are the boyfriends here because they have to; they really don’t want much to do with beating on “a girl”.

CHAPTER 38
I have already said that no matter how careful one plans and prepares, there is always that collection of ‘little things’ that make themselves known right at the last minute, and in this case it was courtesy of Stewie. His old Roller, the wedding present that he and Sally were lending us for the day, along with a couple of other cars, had a visit from the Faery Folk en route to our house.

CHAPTER 36
We had a day to play with before the drive back to Caen, and after the boys had recovered we allowed the children to show us the bits of Paris they had liked best, which included the view of the city as night fell, from the only viewpoint imaginable.
