When I was a young boy, I wore my hair long. My mother did not discourage me because she said that my hair looked lovely, which is what I thought too. But my father hated it. He was always telling me to get it cut and I always resisted. I suppose that says something about my relationship with my father – I felt that he was proud of my older brother, but not me. As far as I was concerned, that made his opinion questionable, so I always questioned him.

The whole next day at school, Genesis felt her nerves amounting. She had not forgotten her agreement to meet up with Megan after school, and the 3:00 bell could not come quickly enough. She wanted more than anything to undo her mistakes in order to get her boyfriend back and prevent her sister from getting cancer.

When her last class ended, Genesis met up with Charlotte, who'd agreed to give her a ride to Megan's house. "So you're actually gonna do it," Charlotte said as Genesis got in her car. "You're actually gonna break into the Council Of Witches' headquarters."

He obviously suspected that my talk of writing a term paper about the clinical use of jekyllase was a cover story, and that I or someone I knew was taking jekyllase and changing sex.

The call ended with Roberta still shocked by the news that Antoine de Scuderi was out of jail and given the evidence, he was now in the UK and even worse, on the hunt for her. The single fingerprint was a clear sign that he was coming for her.

The locker door slammed shut right beside thirteen year old Natalie’s face. She flinched and quickly turned around, her mouth agape and her breathing heavy.

The older girl in front of her, alongside the two friends flocking to her sides, looked at her scornfully. This girl was at least a year older than Natalie, in the eighth grade, and she made it her mission to scare the younger girls and make their lives miserable.

“That got your attention, didn’t it?” She said. “You’re finally looking at me like a normal person.”

“What do you want?” Natalie asked, fearful.

“We know they like being us, or they wouldn’t keep taking jekyllase. We just have to point out that they’ll get more benefit from being us if they change at a convenient time for us to meet up.”
