It may sound crazy, but I answered the phone as her. It was my first femme week of the year, and when I was her, I tried to live her life entirely. Besides, there is something about pulling your phone out of your handbag and daintily sliding a long painted nail across the screen to green, that just keeps her voice on your tongue.

I remember the day we first met. He'd walked through the doors of the orphanage half shrouded behind a tall woman I would never see again. It had been difficult to make out his face in the dimly lit hallway, but I could tell he was terrified of everything around him. Then again, who wouldn't be?
 
Unlike him, my first memories had been of this place. I imagine I would have been just as terrified of these rundown walls in his shoes. For me, this was home, and even back then at the tender age of 7, I knew they would be home for him too.
 

“Natalia… Natalia”, I barely registered the voice. “Oi, Natalia!” Calvin almost shouted, it took a moment before I realised he was talking to me, while I'd often thought of myself as Natalia, I clearly was not yet fully used to others referring to me with the name.

“You only have like 4 hours before mum and dad get home, Laura will be over later, you should probably get up.”

After dinner, they passed a very agreeable hour in a slow, mutual exploration of each other's bodies. To Tano's relief, Eldreth wasn't at all put out that Tano came twice to her once, saying that it was both a tremendous compliment and extremely sexy.

The post-coital cuddling was wonderful enough to be its own revelation, but Tano declined Eldreth's invitation to stay the night, preferring to spend the night in his own space.

I followed her down to a portal to the 18th level, where there was a theater. But not movies on a screen. We went past the main entrance to the theater, down a long corridor, and through one of several doors, onto an empty stage, behind closed curtains. From some sort of control panel Anna selected something. There was a mechanism that I could hear under the stage which moved some set pieces into place. The title “Romeo and Juliet” appeared facing us at the top of the curtain. She did a bit more, and the display changed to read “Rosalie and Juliet.”

“Do you want to be Rosalie or Juliet?”

Over the next two weeks, Jennifer found herself watching James with a new, quiet intensity. It started from a place of care, a desire to monitor him after his breakdown, to take his emotional temperature and ensure he wasn’t spiralling again.
