February Fantasy Fridays: 1

Coworkers William, an accountant, and Kateri, a video game artist, are dating. The
company believes in lots of team building activities including February Fantasy
Fridays to ward off the winter doldrums. These days involve costumes and team
building activities on each of the four Fridays in February. Kat is excited to
participate as a couple, William is less enthusiastic, but might eventually come
around.
Prelude: The Rise of Lián Xuě
They whispered her name in hushed tones long before she ascended to the throne, a name that danced on the lips of those who dreamed of power and destiny. Lián Xuě (蓮雪), the Lotus Snow, evoked images of serene beauty and ethereal grace, a rare bloom untouched by the harshness of the world.
I had intended to leave this story after Part 6, but Part 7 was largely written, so rather than cutting off the story part way through I have uploaded it. I know the number of readers have been dropping steadily. That is understandable, but I do hope that many of you who have persevered have enjoyed the stories.

Chapter 8: Noble Prize
Alex had a terminal Cancer diagnosis and thought she would die before she got to be the girl she always was inside. That all changes when she's in the wrong place at the right time and gets transported to another world and into the body of a girl. So what if she's not human, she's alive and a girl. Now if only she had her sister with her to navigate this new world and her new responsibilities. Wait, she's here too? The passage of their souls between worlds may have doomed the Earth to apocalypse, but Alex and Michelle won't be there to see it and they have enough problems on their hands.

In victory, the Heroine brings about a glorious age of peace between demons and humans for the first time in millennia. ...Which actually sounds pretty good for her people, come to think of it. Devilla knows her terrible behavior is beyond forgiveness, but maybe she can still make up for her past mistakes? She just needs to make sure the events of the game unfold correctly. Though there is one little detail she'd like to change - the part where Devilla herself is killed or enslaved!

Prologue

It was March.
March, and if ever there was a truer place for the old adage in like
a lion, out like a lamb, the house sat at the heart of it. High on a
hill, surrounded by miles of open land, it stood against the storm—a
solitary shape swallowed by white.
The blizzard
thickened, the wind growing restless. Snow lashed the north side of
the house, piling against the walls, shifting like a living thing.
Dennis pulled on
his coat, tension flickering across his face. “I need to check on
the animals.”
His wife frowned.
“Be careful, Denny. The animals aren’t worth getting yourself
killed over.”
He gave her a
small, reassuring smile. “Don’t worry, Cyn. I’ll be back before
you know it.”
Dennis pulled back
the curtain on the kitchen door, peering out into the storm. The barn
light flickered dimly through the swirling snow—at least there was
still power. He was grateful he’d buried the feed underground,
though frost heaves were always a risk.
He glanced back at
Cyndi and Little Denny, then stepped outside.
The door slammed
shut, pulled by the wind, rattling the frame. Cyndi watched him grip
the top rail of the fence between the house and the barn, steadying
himself as he disappeared into the storm.
Chapter 5: Pride
The moment the warm glow of light enveloped me and my vision gradually sharpened, I was greeted by a cascade of intoxicating sensations: the sultry warmth of the air, a heady blend of floral perfumes, and the vibrant hum of animated voices. I had returned to our grand hall—a magnificent space awash in golden candlelight, where the flickering flames danced along the walls, casting playful shadows. Velvet pillows, luxurious and inviting, lay scattered around, while silk-draped columns towered majestically, their rich fabric flowing like water.
HOPELESS HIGH ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE SCHOOL YEAR
Hopeless High did not live up to my expectations. At first sight it was far, far worse. And to make things even worse “Hopeless High School” really was it’s name. The pride of Hopeless, MT. pop. 6,421, including me now. Hopeless had decided to keep the name because it drew tourists. Perhaps as many as 2 000 every year. Doesn’t sound much but it was the difference between life and deaths – for the motel and the one decent restaurant in town, sorry, city.
There are five girls in the kitchen, which serves to confuse me as Lauren had said only six girls were employed and I’d seen the bulk of them, or so I thought. It doesn’t take me long, however, to work out that for the event, outside help had been hired. This fact makes me even more self conscious as I enter the room, escorted by Brynna in my gray uniform; a dress that hangs just below my knees. One of the girls is significantly older than me, probably in her thirties with black hair trussed up into a bun and is mostly covered by a kerchief.
