“That makes no sense whatsoever,” William replied, “but I know what you mean, brother!”

In the newly assimilating areas, the Clan Corvo crushed the rigid class systems that existed in the overwhelmed empires. Those striated societies were totally dominated by the elite upper classes consisting of about 5% of the conquered peoples. Another 5-10% formed a sub-elite class. Beneath them were the lower classes, totally beholding to the upper classes. They had no opportunity to advance and no means to do so even if they tried. Those downtrodden masses, 85-90% of the conquered, eagerly allowed themselves to be swept into the classlessness of the Clan Corvo. For the first time, those long downtrodden people had hope of improving their lives. They eagerly accepted the education opportunities offered by the Clan Corvo since it meant a way to improve their lives.

Raven was on her way to work when she spots a car with the hood up and a young woman with long auburn hair standing in front of it. She pulls up behind the car and gets out and walks towards the young woman.

“Car trouble?” Raven was watching the woman.

Clair knew she should have the water pump taken care of, but she has been too busy at the Library covering people’s shifts. She hasn’t had the time to take the car by a mechanic to get fixed. Now, here she was stuck on the side of the road. She spots a small dark green pickup truck pull behind her car.

Sam's pregnancy becomes real. Jen's relationship with Mike continues to develops and young Liam becomes reliant on his Aunt Jen. Jen spends the night with Mike. Research into Justin's criminal activities continues. Time is passing quickly and relationships are becoming increasingly strained.

Bill’s mind was not really on work the following week. One of his colleagues John Arbuthnot noticed it.
“Ok Bill. Who is she and do we know her or more importantly, have I known her?”

“Eh?”

“You are clearly going through the motions this week. You messed up a trade yesterday. It was lucky that I spotted it otherwise your position would have been down by a mere trifle of three million quid. So, once again, who is she and do we, your partners in crime know her?”

“Sorry to disappoint you John, it is not a she. It is a thing and I have to decide by the end of the week.”

The after party was more like an after dance than a gathering of all the contestants being made available for the audience to schmooze with. With how I was feeling about the competition right now that was kind of a relief. I didn't think I had it in me to smile while people told me I should have won or placed. What was I doing here?!

As I swiped the screen on my phone to end the call it felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. It was like I was being given a complete free reign to stay as I was and continue to explore this other side of me. Nobody so far had seemed to be critical or embarrassed. Only me I suppose.

If you look up my old street on a dated picture form Google, you’d see a children’s paradise. I could ride my bicycle the entire miracle mile of my block without worrying about someone striking me with a car; no one tried to steal my ride and no one offered me anything harder than extra-extra-sour sour patch kids candy.

I look at it now and I have to shake my head in disgust.

It went to shit pretty quick.
