Kara’s team re-formed at the edge of the ruined pillbox, boots crunching over spent shell casings and scorched metal fragments. The smell of burnt alloy hung in the thin air, sharp and bitter, mingling with the ozone tang from discharged plasma. Flickers of ruined circuitry pulsed in the visor light from each soldier’s HUD, painting the ground with ghostly blue reflections.

Been awhile since I've posted. I've started a series of novels based on the Magic, Mystery and Mayhem Universe. I'm calling this one The Case of the Twisted Sister. It has TG in it...along with a campy feel. I'm hoping to make a series similar to the old Scooby Doo Mysteries...not sure if I'll be successful.

Chapter One

A salon visit prompts a possible adventure

Chapter 9: Justice

Linus took a deep, ragged breath, his voluminous chest rising and falling, and pulled through the gate. He followed the drive to the spacious brick-paved area beside the entrance to the enormous house. Conrad’s gleaming new Porsche was there along with a massive pickup truck also sporting the decorative orange license tag with the big white paw in the middle. Seeing the truck, a flash of horror ran through his mind, seemingly from nowhere. Anna’s heart pounded in his chest, and Linus felt light-headed as he put the car in park, hands shaking.

Chapter 4: The Claws

Linus ran a red light on the way home from Scarlett’s hotel. He was so distracted. The Fortis Beach Police that pulled him over recognized Linus from his days in the municipal court before he joined the firm. They talked about all the speeders and drunk drivers Linus had convicted as a junior prosecutor and those he’d gotten acquitted in his brief time as a defense attorney. The officer told Linus he’d let him go with a warning as long as nothing came back when he ran his license through their computer.

The week after the salon night stretched like a taut string. Aria returned to her daily rhythms—emails, project deadlines, cooking lentils in her tiny kitchen—but everything felt changed. When she brushed her teeth in the morning, she remembered the pressure of Ava’s finger on her lips. When she sat on a Zoom call, she caught herself touching the ends of her hair, twisting them the way she’d seen Melissa do.

And at night, when she looked at the photo gallery Ava had given her, she no longer saw “costume.” She saw herself, whole and luminous.

My mouth and eyes were dry, sunlight through my parents window caused me to stir. I rubbed my eyes a little, after opening them I realised what a mistake that was.
